Vital hard crashes Renoise when closing the GUI (VST2 and VST3)

January 3, 2024 - 15:31

Sorry to also bring this up…

when closing the Vital (Version 1.5.5) Renoise freezes completely. This happens with VST2 and VST3 version of the plugin.

Maybe there’s something in the log file that helps:

► Redux 1.3.5 maintenance release (for Cubase 13)

January 3, 2024 - 12:15

This is a quick and dirty update to fix a crash (freezing UI) in Cubase 13 on Windows only.
If you are using MacOS or Linux or don’t use Cubase 13, there is no need to update.

Download

Registered Redux users can download the update as usual from
Renoise Backstage

Demo versions are not yet available, but will follow soon.

Fixes:
  • Windows, Cubase 13:
when opening Redux with the expanded editor open in Redux, the Cubase 13 GUI would freeze.

Shaperbox 3.5 hard crashed renoise

I think I tried deleting the plugin while Renoise was in playback mode and Renoise suddenly vanished.

Been Making a Video Game Sountrack and Effects in Renoise

January 3, 2024 - 02:16

Hi! I’ve been writing a video game soundtrack and doing its sound design for a few years. Initially I was writing rock music in Cubase for it, but at some fateful point I revisited my tracker roots by taking a serious dive into Renoise. A friend remarked how much he preferred the direction things were going with a tracker and it’s been no looking back since! I loved the days of Scream Tracker and Impulse Tracker, but really hadn’t enjoyed anything since until Renoise! Totally worth the money and a joy…most of the time!

I’m using a few VST synths, a few samples, and BFD3 for most drums in the music. The sound effects have been all over the board. I went on quite a few sampling trips to have original material to mangle… birds, farm animals, tractors, and tractors, and tractors, tools, metal shops, old house sounds like door latches, and so on! With the sound effects, I’ve far preferred the approach in Renoise versus traditional DAWs. High-tempo tracker sequencing to all the sampler modulation options have made it a grand ole time!

The game itself, Blister Blight, is a 2D action-platformer, with a retro vibe and nods to Megaman and Metroidvania genres. …plenty of its own unique game-play, some RPG elements, and humor as well! It’s been a load of fun seeing all aspects morph and develop over time.

We’re at the point in the game’s development where we are starting a Kickstarter campaign to fund its completion. Our main goal is to provide the art team and lead developer the ability to work on it full-time. We aim to deliver it onto the Steam and Nintendo Switch platforms. I’m very excited about what we already have to show and am very confident in the team continuing to crank out amazing stuff. I would love for you to take a look at how far we’ve come and be on the look-out for the upcoming Kickstarter! Come discover plenty of story, art, game-play clips, and maybe even my music at: https://blisterblight.com/kickstarter/

This is my final fix for your Fly Around Doofer

January 2, 2024 - 22:32

Here you go. Now, just perfect it. I did all the work for you. Not quite perfect, though, but close. Thanks for sending your Doofer; it really turned my morning around. I thought everyone was my enemy. I also didn’t sleep; I kept working on a song all night. I removed all the needless Gainer values, fixed a stupid mistake I made in messing with the sync to lines per beat, added two more Stereo Expanders, and added an extra Gainer to level off the volume.

Typical 'Subtractive Synth' Envelope Amount

January 2, 2024 - 21:14

Seems basic but I can’t for the life of me work out how to set this up.

I’m after the behaviour as found on the Roland classics eg Juno 60 or SH-101 (or pretty much any analogue/virtual analog tbh) in that there’s a control for the filter cutoff point and a separate parameter that controls the amount of envelope added without changing the base cutoff point.

Obviously we have the Input paramater on our filter modulation lane but separating out the two is eluding me.

Any ideas?

Mono mpReverb actually not mono

January 2, 2024 - 20:43

Someone mentioned this at the discord channel and that’s indeed the case.

When setting the width slider of the mpReverb to mono the reverb is slightly shifted to the right. I have to set it to 11L that it becomes really mono.

Limit to phrasing length?

January 2, 2024 - 18:48

Hi everyone!

Happy new year!

I have an odd issue with phrases and I’ve tried to search for answers everywhere, and have been trying various things for hours, without much luck.

I have a 2 min 20 second sample - a recording of a rhythm, acoustic guitar. I’ve sliced the various break points and am trying to render this to a phrase.

What I’m attempting to do is comp in Renoise. My theory is to render the three acoustic recordings to phrases using the slicing tool, and then on the pattern editor put them side to side, and delete specific slices I don’t want in the phrases - so essentially you only end up with the best parts in the pattern editor.

It works rather well and I’ve done this with short vocal singing samples, but now on this long sample it renders all the slices (combined to a time of 2:20bpm; 6 slices in all) onto 8 lines. (The song’s LPB is 4.) If I extend the lines on the ‘render to phrase’ to, say, 32 lines, it does do that, but the timing is still completely wrong - it’s like it’s unable to understand the tempo of the original recording or something - and so get’s the changes wrong on the phrase editor.

I can’t seem to find where I can fix this. It works perfectly for shorter samples - I follow the same process and everything just works. So I’m not sure if there is a limit to length of sample you can reliably slice into phrases?

Thanks so much!

Hello,
I have a lot of widgets and to save and record configuration I want to speed up differently.
List of all widgets in the program I write down.

But to be able to work with it as I need, I need to find out his defined ‘ID’ that I gave him when creating.
Is it possible?
Thanks

0CXX and phrases

December 31, 2023 - 12:51

Been using phrases for a number of uses recently - less as patterns and more as functions like random(ish) sample start offsets and grain clouds.

I’ve noticed that that using the Cut command 0CXX in the main pattern editor doesn’t affect samples playing within phrases.

Unsure if this is a bug, oversight or just the only possible behaviour but I can’t think of a use case where this is is the ideal/intended behaviour.

Patterns_obs vs. selected_pattern_index_obs

December 30, 2023 - 19:35

I was having a bug in one of my tools that took a while to pinpoint. Either I was stupid or the API behavior is a bit unexpected:

It seems that renoise.Song.selected_pattern_index_observable is always banging before renoise.Song.patterns_observable (e g, when inserting a new pattern and both are banging). This is a bit unexpected to me, as I would expect a list to be updated before the “active position” is changed.

(In practice, this was bugging me since I have an internal Document that is updating to reflect the current pattern list - while my GUI is updating on any changes of selected_pattern_index. Hence, I’ll get “attempt to index a nil value” when trying to access my Document in the brief time between those bangs.)

An ugly and non-failsafe workaround would be to wrap the index bang in a timer. But maybe the order of banging should/could be changed here, @taktik?

-- NB: the order of the two calls below does not matter renoise.song().patterns_observable:add_notifier( function() print("pattern list bang") end ) renoise.song().selected_pattern_index_observable:add_notifier( function() print("pattern index bang") end ) -- seems to always bang first. possible lack of integrity :)

LADSPA Plugins cause crackles when saving the Renoise project

December 30, 2023 - 18:59

I was just testing this rather new loudmax plugin which is available as a LADSPA plugin for Linux

https://www.kvraudio.com/product/loudmax-by-thomas-mundt

When I put this on the master bus or on any other track (which produces audio) there’s crackling when saving the Renoise project (and possibly also sporadically … needs to be tested).

First I thought it’s a bug in the plugin, but this happens with all LADSPA plugins.

I tested Renoise 3.0.1 and it does the same.

It happens with Jack and with ALSA. Tested on MX Linux MX-21.3_x64.

True Peak Limiters for Linux

December 30, 2023 - 16:47

Who’s looking for a good True Peak limiter in Linux I just found these two new and great LADSPA plugins:

https://luveler.blogspot.com/
https://loudmax.blogspot.com/

The leveller even as a LUFS target setting.

Just copy the .so files (e.g. la_LUveler64.so) into your /home/…/.ladspa folder (if it doesn’t exit make such a folder). Rescan plugins and have fun!

EETTEE - EETTEE DUB, Tearout Dubstep in Renoise

December 30, 2023 - 10:43

I really like this one! I forgot that I made this until I heard it a few minutes ago. I did this in 2019 with Renoise. I am kind of in awe that I did it, which alleviates the tension of working on a current track and hoping my that laptop doesn’t get hit by a meteorite or something before I get to finish it. I used VSTs for bass such as FM8, Sugar Bytes Cyclop, Sugar Bytes Factory (those are the ones I can remember clearly)—but I remember a lot of using Renoise’s sampler to compile metal pluck sounds for that kind of melodic bass, metallic sounds originally from NI Prism. Try it out!

Edit: I forgot the link

How to add notifier for when the current line selected changes?

December 29, 2023 - 23:52

Hi all, hope you’re doing well,
I’m trying to send OSC messages in real time as a track is being played, I couldn’t find it in the doc but I was wondering if there was an observable that would listen for when the currently selected line changes.
Thank you for taking the time to read this, have a good one!

Turn off the automatic note-off right before a new note is triggered?

December 29, 2023 - 18:48

Here I am, puzzling why I can’t get the legato work on my synth using the sequencer.

When playing the keyboard and playing legato, the envelope of the synth isn’t retriggered.
But I can’t achieve that with Renoise.

Thinking it was a dark setting in the synth at first, I start looking everywhere…
But then I analysed the MIDI sent out by Renoise, and it seems it automatically sends a note-off command right before sending a new note, which causes to always retrigger the envelope.

Usually this is great… unless where I don’t want it.

I’m staring at the FX commands, hoping to find the right one to tie the notes and not send that note-off.
But I don’t see it…
Gx doesn’t seem to work…

Anyone can point me to the right FX command, or setting in Renoise?

December 28, 2023 - 23:05

Hi there folks, hope you’re all having a good time and are enjoying your holidays!

I’ve been thinking about getting a tattoo for a while now and decided that I’ll do something related to Renoise and Trackers in general so I’m currently doing some research, do you guys have any cool art concepts to suggest? I’d be really down to check them out.

EETTEE - SHATTERING SPELL heavy crazy bass/trap/noise song in Renoise (+ what's your TikTok?)

December 28, 2023 - 00:19

Finally back on this forum because I started producing again!!! I made this years ago and it has escaped my drive because I think someone could find it cool or maybe even helpful in life. The chops at the end help me in my day.

Also, are any of you on TikTok? I love pulling out my phone to watch little tracker videos and I record them too in order to log transient ideas in the creative process. I’m @eettee_ on there.
