Automation Bug (Spikes at the beginning of a line)
Hello everybody,
I’m pretty sure I discovered an envelope automation bug in renoise.
This bug happens only if an automation point is exactly at the beginning of a line AND at least one other automation point is placed before the next line begins.
Current (buggy) playback behaviour seems to be like this:
At the beginning of each line, Renoise scans what is the automation value at the end of this line, sets this automation value for the duration of one tick (at a beginning of the line), then contiues the other ticks with the correct values.
Correct behavior would be like this:
Renoise would not set the automation value of the end of the line at the beginning of the line (for one tick).
/*
It’s hard to describe, so I will upload a xrns file.
*/
Sorry, I can’t upload, because the upload button says “new users can not upload attachments”.
It has a VST3 dependency (Surge XT), but you can replace it with another synth.
Please open the envelope curve of Doofer Macro1, watch the line numbers, the placement of automation points, and listen to the pitchbend automation.
Thank you!
My System:
Debian AMD64
Renoise 3.4.4

Slices and 0Bxx Command
When a sample is sliced and triggered via note in the pattern editor along with 0B01 command on the same line, if the the stop playback of sample option is unchecked(not highlighted) the 0B01 command will then trigger the sample to play backwards from the end of the entire sample rather than the end of the slice. This does NOT happens when the sampler is configured to stop playback at the end of the slice.
I don’t know if this is intended but it is a major inconvenience because I tend to leave that box unhighlighted when slicing samples. The renoise sampler is great(the best) at slicing drum breaks but it is well equipped for melodies and loops as well. Is there a workaround, or perhaps this can be fixed.

How to wipe samples in note-off layer?
i need some way of making sure that all the slots in the note-off layer are deleted, including the sample buffers. so the note-off layer would be pristine and empty.

Sample Editor, snapping to slice markers behavior
In the sample editor window with the snap option set to markers it’s not snapping to the markers properly for me,the other options seem to work correctly, anybody else get this?it may just behave differently to the other options and I haven’t noticed before,it does snap to the markers as you pass them but it also allows you to place your selection outside the markers too.

Scale pattern while preserving note timing
Hi!
Is it currently possible to record some notes in Renoise and then after the performance make the notes fit into a pattern so that it loops smoothly? I would like to record freely without pre-setting a tempo and then change the settings for my pattern until it matches what I played.

Settings in Airwindows Consolidate get reset after opening project
Hi guys,
When using Airwindows Consolidate I found that when I save a project with the plugin and reopen the project, the settings get reinitialized when playing an instrument on the channel with the plugin. I was hoping this was a bug in the plugin, but I tested this in Reaper where it works fine. I use the VST3 version.
You can download the plugin (free) here:
Many thanks if you could look into this, or just say whether this is a bug in the plugin or Renoise!

Missing something obvious, again... Instrument Volume
Hi everyone, simple job: Create a new song, load the Unobass instrument from the library.
Put some notes into a pattern, and then type some values into the volume column.
Why doesn’t it work? I guess volume (or “velocity”) can be mapped to various things like attack or cutoff, which is super neat and all, and I’d love to play with that more later.
But for now, how can I map the volume of this instrument… to the volume? [mindblown.gif]

Run shortcut, store "2". next run, read "2" and go to "3" instead - i.e. "incremental shortcut"
It’s hard to put this into words.
I want to start from 2, when I run the shortcut for the first time. then when i run the shortcut for the second time, it should read “oh, 2” and go “well, 3”. then read 3, go to 4.
until reaching the end of a list.
how would this be done, please?

Paninng difference?
Hello
Today I was talking to some musician friends and couple of them unanimously agreed that when panning vocals, backvocals, instruments and … to the right they feel farther away and when doing the opposite(pan to the left) they hear and feel(perceive) closer to the listener .
I never felt this way and obviously I’ve always thought that panning certain sounds to left and right has nothing to do with them getting closer or farther away . Also I found absolutely nothing on Internet to scientifically support their weird idea .
Your thoughts please?

[Instr. Automation] Dbl Click Resets to Negative Extreme Values
Renoise v3.4.3
Plugin used in example: TAL Sampler
OS: Windows 10 64bit Pro
Just noticed when I add an Instr. Automation to a track, if I double click a slider, instead of reseting to the default init value (or even the default of the plugin) it goes to extreme left instead of 0.
Defaults:
After Double Click:
Would be a nice quality of life improvement if it went back to default

Select Next Instrument keyboard shortcut bug on mac
Interesting bug here. Macbook m1 pro, I’m still on Sonoma 14.3.1 but I’m sure it carries.
When I am in the plugin instrument tab (and have a plugin loaded, any plugin) and I keyboard-highlight any of the 3 value boxes in the plugin options:
if I then use the “Select Next Instrument” (or previous) keyboard shortcut, the selected instrument progresses by 2 inst. numbers (instead of the expected 2)
[select next instrument via keyboard] →
boop!
The behavior goes back to normal (progression by 1 instrument slot) when you move away from and back to the tab via any other view, I believe.
This does not happen for any other reason that I can figure out, and is not project specific.
Thanks!

Is it possible to transpose a slice?
at the moment, when im using breaks and want to do a snare roll with descending or ascending pitches, i have to copy the slice into a new instrument so that i can play it across the keyboard. is it possible to pitch a slice up/down without creating a new instrument?

More intuitive instrument selection
Currently we use numpad 1-9 for selecting instruments. The issue here is that the instrument starts at “0”, so instrument “0” means you press “1” on your numpad, and instrument “5” means you press “6”, which is confusing behavior for newcomers.
I see 2 ways to fix this:
-
Make numpad 0-9 select instruments and move “open editor” to the numpad period key, which I don’t believe Renoise uses otherwise.
-
Simply change the display number of the first instrument to “1” instead of “0”, moving every number up by one.
I’m in favor of the first option as this would allow you to select an additional instrument with your numpad compared to current behavior. Also, this would arguably be BETTER for people used to the old behavior as they can simply rebind keys to the previous way whilst removing “Instrument 0” would be a permanent change that may throw older users off.
While not a solution for the default behavior, adding “Select instrument 10” as a keybind would let me be able to use my 9 key, which currently doesn’t do anything due to the limited number of instrument keybinds available. (Can I fix this via lua scripts?)

MIDI routing - delays and out of sync
I remember when I was trying to use FL plugin inside Renoise (that vst that allows to use FL instruments inside other DAWs). I was surprised how bad it works in Renoise - everything was uneven, some notes plays with a delay etc. But I was thinking that it’s because stupid FL wrapper/plugin.
Today I tested something different. As you may know, some synths have midi output and you can control other plugins using that. So I tested new feature in some synth (commercial) - routing MIDI to other synth. One synth only produces MIDI ARP output and second synth plays that MIDI notes. And they’re out of sync. Not very much, but still. A little less when number of ticks per line was increased, but even then equal spaces between ARP notes sound like with random small delays.
So I tested few oher synths that has midi output and one arp plugin. Also I changed destination plugins as well. No matter how I was triying to pair them or setup (static buffers or not) - notes plays uneven, out of sync. Not a big difference, but noticeable.
Can it be fixed?
IMPORTANT - problem is when plugins are in Sandboxed mode.
