Can I trigger 1 out of 3 different phrases at random

September 23, 2024 - 22:49

I would like to have Renoise pick 1 out of 3 phrases at random - always playing a phrase.
Could I also have phrase 1 play 60% of the time and phrases 2 and 3 play at 20% of the time each?

Individual block preview / play

September 23, 2024 - 21:06

Greetings!

How do you ‘preview/play’ a single selected block, and have Renoise output only that blocks data/audio?

The ‘Enter Key’ plays the entire row (of all channels that aren’t Muted)

I would like to be able to select any block in a pattern and ‘preview/cue’ that blocks audio only.

Thank you !

Question about Vst2 support in the future

September 23, 2024 - 17:54

So apparently plugin devlopers have to migrate to vst3, since steinberg are ending the vst2. But i was wondering what happens to Vst2 support in daws? I’ve read various stuff on the internet. Some says daw makers can be forced to remove vst2 support, others say the opposite. I really hope that Vst2 stays in future Renoise. I like some plugins that probably never will be Vst3.

Recorded by right-clicking on the “Active/Bypass” envelope of the track device

September 23, 2024 - 05:44

Sorry if this is wrong.
Currently in V3.4.4, it does not seem to be possible to record to the “Active/Bypassed” envelope by right-clicking on the “Enable/Bypass” checkbox of the track device.
It would be useful to be able to do this.

Ubuntu 24.04: Render Options not choosable with mouse pointer in Fullscreen Mode

September 22, 2024 - 00:03

Not really an issue, but it took me a while. When Renoise is in Fullscreen Mode it’s not possible to change the render options for exporting a track with the mouse pointer. What works only is to change the options (e.g. high priority, sampling rate, etc) by the mouse wheel. When not being in Fullscreen mode it’s working fine.

Remember note value

September 21, 2024 - 14:25

I’m not sure if it’s possible somehow, but it would be nice if Renoise could remember the last value. For example: using notecut “C2” on a note. Then the next note would automaticly use the same value without having to type the command. I think i read somewhere that impulsetracker had something like this?

MIDI OUT from Pitchbend, Modulation, Channel Pressure in Piano keyboard UI

September 21, 2024 - 08:43

I sometimes play external sound sources via MIDI OUT on Renoise’s Piano keyboard UI.
Renoise’s Piano keyboard is easy to use, and MIDI OUT to REAPER, etc. is useful for playing CLAP, LV2, Windows plug-ins using yarbridge, etc., which are not yet supported by Renoise.
Sorry if I am wrong, but it looks like Pitchbend, Modulation, and Channel Pressure played on the Piano keyboard UI are not MIDI OUT.
It would be useful if they could be MIDI out.

I know that this is possible by using the *Instr. MIDI Control device, but there doesn’t seem to be a way to assign arbitrary MIDI CCs, etc. to the Pitchbend, etc. on the Piano keyboard UI. If there is, I’d be glad to know.
If not, it would be useful to be able to do that as well.

https://0x0.st/X3R-.mp4

Thus, I feel that there is a relatively high priority on the part of the interface where functionality can be outsourced to external tools without having to implement something in Renoise’s standard. Nonetheless, I would imagine that MIDI OUT would be relatively easy to implement (although it may be difficult to make changes to audio out, etc.).

It might be easier to use the default output of Pitchbend, Modulation, and Channel Pressure, all of which are filtered when the Controllers checkbox is unchecked.
Please consider implementation.

Making `Channel Pressure` UI elements easier to see

September 21, 2024 - 06:12

The Channel Pressure UI elements seem to be difficult to see in a dark theme.
I did not notice their existence until today.
It would be useful if they could be made easier to see in some way.

Live Internal Recording Into Sampler

September 20, 2024 - 01:05

Some sort of “instrument” in the sampler that can live record the internal master into the sampler would be great. I like to tinker with plugins and knobs but I find myself having to constantly input/record motion into blank patterns then rendering whatever to a sample, it’s quite tedious. I think FL has some sort of always-on recording device, same with the Roland SP’s. Would be nice to be able to grab whatever I’ve been tinkering with from the sampler whenever needed. I don’t even necessarily mean during playback, most of the time I’m doing this when playback is off, but both would be great.

What is the way/is there a way to make Redux work like a real tracker?

September 19, 2024 - 21:39

Hi there, Great day to you,

I am a musician who has been looking for a way to include tracking in a modern music making environment for about 20+ years

It is simply the fastest and best way for making musically astounding beats & other compositions

( closely resembling to ‘live’ instrument - feel, in terms of musicality )

And i would like to know, how to make Redux ( or anything out there ) work like a real tracker

Real tracker = ( basic ) FT2 keycommands, for composing and arranging

( that’s it )

And it seems like this magnificient looking software is crippled by something called phrases… which yes i am sure has their place… however has nothing to do with quickly composing with some of the best keycommands out there

These are available in the full version of Renoise…

And that is not compatible with other music making software, so the version that is, is missing all the essentials for creating great songs ( inside other DAW’s )

and i would like to ( know a way how to ) make it work

Thank you for your time,

Stay Blessed & Have a Great Fun Ahead

Symbolic Links and Directories Can Create Pseudo Tag Expressions in Disk Browser

September 19, 2024 - 06:34

Since Samples in Disk Browser can display symbolic links, I found that if I put a symbolic link of the target sample in a directory, I can use that directory as a tag.

https://0x0.st/X3WC.mp4

This is useful because it allows a single file to have multiple meanings.
This is necessary because there are some sounds that are in between kick and tom, for example, or crash cymbal and ride cymbal.
At least on Linux, the above method would work.
It might be possible to do it with macOS symlinks or Windows shortcut files, but I don’t know.

I hope this helps you.

Redux won't recall my default settings

September 18, 2024 - 11:51

Hi there,

I recently purchased Redux and I’m having trouble getting it to remember my default settings. It’s failing to recall the theme, sample and instrument bookmarks and other sampler settings even if I save them as a preset. What’s going on? Am I doing something wrong?

OS: Windows 10 Pro 22H2

Redux Build: Redux V1.3.5

DAW: Reaper V7.22 and Bitwig 5.0.11

How do I tell what instrument is being used on a note?

September 18, 2024 - 01:14

in this example the two notes circled in red are playing two different sounds, in famitracker for example there is an instrument number for each note. I cant see such a thing on renoise but there must be since it does remember which sounds to play

Renoise rounding decimals

September 18, 2024 - 00:23

hello peepz,
back on renoise after a while and very happy for it.
i’m trying to understand smth that’s quite crucial to me (though probably pointless for others), is there anyway to have 4 decimal precision in renoise from the interface?
meaning what happens in the rounding.
i see that it’s all rounded to 3 but i generally use a lot of exact 0.5 / 0.25/ etc amplitude scale for which to work properly, i need 4decimals in db. (ie 0.5= -6.0206 / 0.25= -12.0412 etc

any insights welcome
be well all.

[SOLVED] Keyboard doing weird things?

September 17, 2024 - 17:20

Alright I’m going insane over this shit, why did my keyboard change colors and for some reason when I play some notes it plays others and some notes just can’t be played anymore?! There are no options for this? I can’t find anything in settings and it just “happened” out of the blue… wtf is this?

It’s ONLY on my vocal instrument too. What is this for and how do I change it back?

Beginner quesiton : Choosing a DAW Controller - Icon P1-Nano

September 17, 2024 - 15:07

Hello guys,

I use Renoise since a long time, and hooked an Arturia Keystep for the keyboard. I know it is possible to control most (all?) of Renoise settings by mapping MIDI to commands and buttons, but I never did that before.

In order to improve my setup, I’d love to acquire a DAW Controller. I found the ICON P1-Nano along with its D5 Oled screen that seems to suit, as it is very compact, has lots of features according to the manual.

It is said it supports 3 DAWs simultaneously, and comes with a list of supported ones mentioned in the user manual. As you guessed, there is no mention of Renoise. I just see on their manual that the P1-Nano is Mackie Protocol compliant, and also obviously able to send MIDI messages.

● Supports Universal Mackie Control and HUI protocols for seamless integration
with compatible music production software.

● Supports Ability, Audition, Ableton Live, Bitwig, Cakewalk, Cubase/Nuendo,
Digital Performer, FL Studio, Mixbus 32C, Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Reaper, Reason,
Samplitude, Studio One and Tracktion Waveform.

I didn’t find a clear mention of how to interface easily the P1-Nano to Renoise, even on this forum. There seem to be at least one Renoise Tool that can handle this Mackie Protocol (Duplex Duplex - is it dead? - Renoise Tools - Renoise Forums), but I know nothing about this protocol as I never had such a controller before.

My questions are probably simple for some of you, and would help take my decision:

  1. Is it possible to use such a controller to control Renoise (Probably yes, I guess) ?

  2. Would any VST plugin parameters that I would load into Renoise be also assignable ? I’m using some Korg and Air VSTi and VSTfx.

  3. Is Renoise able to send back status and values of the parameters to the P1-Nano, as it has a motorized fader, but also many screens to feedback information such as channel volume and pan, and others. I guess that is related to the Mackie Protocol but maybe it’s also possible using MIDI messages.

  4. Am I doing wrong by looking at this P1-Nano, there are so many DAW controllers. My criteria are clearly compact size, rich features and ease of use once configured.

I’d like to know if I’m doing right before ordering the P1-Nano, so all your answers are welcome. Meanwhile I’ll continue to read about the Mackie Protocol and try to understand how the Duplex tool works.

Best regards,

Bruno
