Trouble with ReWire between Logic Pro X and Renoise
For the past couple days I’ve been doing my best to trouble shoot this by digging through old threads here relating to rewire. I’ve tried multiple different applications with Renoise trying to accomplish any rewire connection at all. It seems like Renoise is having trouble detecting other programs.
I’m using an M1 mac laptop with the most recent OS. My goal is to have Renoise function as a ReWire slave and route audio into Logic. I’ve gone through my security settings and given every permission to Renoise that it was requesting, and the same with Logic. I’ve tried both ReWire modes in Logic, and I’ve uninstalled and reinstalled both applications. Both are running their most recent versions.
I feel like I’m missing something. I’m launching Logic first and creating a song, and then I launch Renoise and the usual ReWire slave popup isn’t showing up. Do I need to download something else for ReWire to function? Is there a settings area in Renoise I’m missing where ReWire could be disabled? Is anyone else experiencing an issue like this with M1 Macs?
Any help is appreciated.

Mute and Solo Automation?
Hello guys
I am trying to do automation on some tracks (Solo one track while all others are muted)… Do you have any idea how to automate clicking ON/OFF/MUTE in Mixer or there is other way? I simply want to avoid clicking OFF to all tracks except one I want to be heard, and I often do it manually. There might be a command for that? Script? Shortcut?
Thanx

Crash when auto-slicing a sample slice
Description:
Renoise crashes when I try to auto-slice an existing sample slice. I’m using Renoise 3.4.1 on macOS Catalina, though I have been noticing this problem for a while.
Steps to reproduce look like this:
- Load a sample
- Make at least one slice
- Select the slice in the slice list
- Auto-slice using the keyboard shortcut (by default, Cmd-J or Ctrl-J). The auto-slice button is disabled inside of slices so this is the only way to do it.
- If Renoise hasn’t crashed yet, try undoing
Expected results:
Renoise claims it will delete all other sample slots and slice the current one.
Actual results:
Usually Renoise crashes. Sometimes it slices as expected and then crashes when I undo.

Glitchy track DSP display after restoring A/B presets
Description:
When I restore an A/B preset on certain plugins, I get a glitchy display on the track DSP UI. Showing then hiding the parameter sliders fixes it. I’m using Renoise 3.4.1 on macOS Catalina.
Steps to reproduce look like this:
- Load CHOWTapeModel VST3 (a free plugin, as an example. I have noted the same problem with other VST3s and AUs)
- Save and restore an A/B preset
Expected results:

Candy Falls (Orch. Hybrid)
Its good to be back in the seat with Renoise, and it inspired me to create whatever this is, but for sure fat brass and bass swells makes everything better, don’t even argue!
https://soundcloud.com/thedamnchicken/candy-falls
It has a lot of ear candy with the synth/hat loops, hence the cheeky name.

Hello World! (first post)
Hi everyone, I’m a new Renoise user, just wanted to pop in and say hello. I also have polyend Tracker, if anyone wants to talk about that as well hit me up. Using Renoise on linux with Vital and hopefully my Tone2 plugins if I can get them working. I’m looking forward to joining the community, maybe I’ll have something positive to contribute!

MIDI Drag and Drop with Roland TB303, 808 et al
Hey guys,
i am pretty new to renoise. Recently i managed to include my Roland Cloud Effects into Renoise.
Normally, after building sequences inside the plugin, you drag and drop your new pattern (“variation” in TB303) into a channel. At least, that’s how i am understanding the Plugin. The data-transfer works perfectly fine in Acid Music Studio, for example. Its really easy to create patterns - pull them into the timeline - arrange or rearrange them with other patterns, automate knobs etc…
With renoise however, the drag and drop function seems broken. The data included seems to be uncorrelated Salad - with no connection to the Plugin Whatsoever. Moreover, renoise creates a “Midi-Instrument” which is completely empty, during the drag and drop process. The “uncorrelated garbage” MIDI data is referenced to this new MIDI-Instrument. And yes: The 303 gets triggered “ON” - but cannot be controlled via Renoise - only via the plugin itself.
It is not possible to control the plugin -directly- with Renoise. The same applies to other Plugins e.g. the 808. It uses a similar type of sequencer - and you get the same uncorrelated garbage, when pulling patterns from the Plugin into Channels in Renoise.
That is a serious bug for me. I am not sure, if i am missing something. Having a plugin, you can’t control with the main program is quite pointless. And yes: I am aware of the Audio (=Wave) Downmix of Plugins - but this is not what i want. I do not want to sample my plugin-sounds - i want to control the plugin directly - treating the Plugin as a device.

Screensaver breaks Renoise 3.4.1 in Windows 10
My Windows 10 screensaver started while I was away from the computer for a moment while Renoise was open and the music was playing.
[“On resume, display logon screen” was enabled.]
After stopping the screensaver and attempting to get back to work in Renoise, my keyboard and mouse were unresponsive for Renoise only. It worked fine for everything else in Windows. I noticed if I clicked the Renoise Icon on taskbar (for the instance that was already open) i could at least press spacebar to stop and start playback, but nothing else worked. And as soon as I clicked in Renoise all mouse and keyboard functions completely stopped again alltogether. I had to End Task in order to get out of Renoise. I could not access the menu to save my project either so it is gone.
I have since turned off screensavers to avoid this happening again, but want to mention this as a bug.
- Enabled Windows 10 screensavers with “On resume, display logon screen” checked.
- Open Renoise and have a project open
- Let screensaver start
- Click or press something on the keyboard to exist screensaver. and Notice that Renoise is unresponsive to mouse and keyboard>

Hello,
i have problems with the Drag and Drop function of Renoise. In past i could drag & drop Songs from the files section into the pattern resulte in loading song. No i get a Denied Icon on this action and song is not loaded.
Any suggestions for me? I install a very old renoise 2.8 Version last days. could this cause the failure?
happy tracking

Loading Time GIFs - Various Trackers - Sequencers >>>
Over at KVR there was a question thread of what is fastest loading DAW?..Well, one would have to eliminate plug scanning 'cause everybody have different amount of plugs, plus one would have to account for machine speed, etc…
So in a way kinda pointless but since I make short Vids & GIFs I decided to record some of the faster ones in a ‘put up or shutup’ statement…
Of course nobody interested there as none were ableton, or cubase, or logic or many other the mainstream crap-ass DAWs so many think they gotta have but would probably be better off with way less…
So I post here just for fun…No GIFs were sped up in any way but the Aodix one is running a bit fast so add half-second or so…
Aero Studio & Aodix are parsing plugins directory for new DLLs as they start, LUNA & Cakewalk Project5 simply reading pre-compiled listed from pre-scanned or wrapped VSTs (Project5)…

Modwheel creates notes delay
I recorded modwheel directly into track fx (default). I know that I can do it using automation, but that was not anything comples. And Renoise saves it as:
M0 EC -101
(for example - different values)
using delay column as parameter.
Problem is that for some reason it creates notes delay too.

Any way to mimic the AudioThing Type A plugin?
So, I downloaded this plugin as a trial, and I really like it! It does over-modify some of the frequencies a bit more than I’d like, so I wondered if some variation of this could be designed with native Renoise tools?
AudioThing Type A - Dolby A Trick Plugin - Vintage Enhancer (VST)Type A is a plugin inspired by the famous Dolby A Trick technique. It emulates the encode stage dynamically increasing the top end of a signal.
Price: €59
It’s layout is documented here (on page 6):
audiothing.net AudioThing_Type_A.pdf235.51 KB
The reason I’m curious to know if this can be emulated is because the idea of this working as a single Doofer versus setting up a chain to 4 individual sends makes this seem ideal as another ‘spice’ device. Spice Device! Slap it on as part of the ‘mastering chain’ kinda ‘spice’. I did think of adding this as 4 separate sends - but then I’d have to add a send device to every track in my song. I’d rather just pop a Doofer in place before my mastering chain.
It really did a nice thing with the overall sound of the track, and while I can afford the plugin, I’d rather stick with Renoise solely and no VST/AU additional plugins.
