Renonquet - Floating Forest
https://youtu.be/X1ZoRDiiYBw?si=x0rGS760Yf-T894E
(I was hoping to embed the video but I’m not sure if it will work)
My first song posted in 8 years. Wish I had got back into doing this sooner.
It’s a straightforward plod-along easy listening thing. I’ll try and upload some more of these soon.
If you like it, then my first album is also on Youtube https://youtu.be/8DjRbAgfyb8?si=AHjsIX-xmZw2T_B7 … also on Spotify for the time being.
Thanks

Exported file missing audio from one of my VSTis
For some unknown reason, my Vital Audio VSTi volume goes to 0 when I render my project as a file. Every time I render, the “volume level” knob (in the VSTi) goes to 0. I am expecting the VSTi to work normally but it just simply refuses to render with volume. I do not know how this happened. I have made a video which is easier to understand: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8QLXaLh37fo

The red box in 2025
Octave Wrapper / Pitch Constrainer / Scale Limiter
Not sure how to term this but I’ve got something I’d like to try with a bass instrument (xrni):
I’ve got a couple of saw waves for the mids with the lows rolled off
I’ve also got a sine playing at the same time for the sub freqs
I’d like to be able to play all 8 Octaves with the saws, i.e. the main harmonic content of the bass
But I’d like the sine sub limited to a range (say C2–B3 for argument’s sake) so that if C4 is played it wraps back around to C2
I’ve got this to work through keyzones, but this requires the sine to be duplicated, which is fine really, but I wondered if there was a neater way to achieve this through modulation with keytracking or similar.

New Tool: Web-based OctaMED-to-Renoise converter
Hello everyone! This is my first post here and I don’t know if this is the right venue, but here goes:
My brother Al and I have created a web-based OctaMED-to-Renoise song converter, and hosted it online here: https://www.snappymaria.com/mmd-convert/
Does anyone out there still have old OctaMED songs in need of upgrading? (If not, you can stop reading this now…)
We did this in some free time we had over the break, mostly so that Al could port some of his old OctaMED music projects to Renoise. There’s no real documentation of it (other than this thread announcing it), it’s just a blank web page inviting you to drop a .med file on it and maybe get a Renoise .xrns file in return. The conversion takes place in the desktop browser window, so there’s no actual uploading of the music anywhere, it all happens locally on your own machine, usually quite quickly.
This doesn’t work with all the old tracker formats, just OctaMED’s uncompressed save files (MMD0, MMD1, and MMD3, and if you’re lucky MMD2 might just barely work). If you want some files to test it with, I have a few online. Al and I wrote a game called MegaBall for the Commodore Amiga way back in the 1990’s, and Al used OctaMED for all the game’s music, which is now publicly available here: https://bitbucket.org/emackey/megaball/src/master/MB_Music/
Give MBmus24.med a try, for example. Download the .med file, then visit the converter page, and drag-and-drop the .med file onto the banner requesting it, and it should give you its best effort to produce a similar-sounding .xrns Renoise file. It’s not perfect and there are no guarantees or warranties that come with this thing, it’s just a free-time side project.
The basic pattern of notes-in-tracks often survives the conversion best. The commands are trickier, as OctaMED has a very different set of commands than Renoise, but Al and I put together a translation table for ones that are the most similar. The converter will complain about commands that it doesn’t know how to translate, but will finish the conversion anyway. Commands for pitch bending and volume slides may work differently for example, so a song might need manual cleanup after the conversion if it does this kind of thing.
OctaMED also has 8-bit software “Synth” and “Hybrid” modes where synth instructions are applied to waveforms or samples. This stuff doesn’t convert perfectly, but basic synth waveforms are salvaged, and synth/hybrid volume commands are converted to similar Renoise instrument “modulation” volume envelopes. The MBmus24.med song has a few synth and hybrid instruments, which you can find in the converted result by looking through the Renoise sampler’s “modulation” tab for each converted instrument.
Anyway there’s our fun holiday project, I hope you like it! Let me know in the replies here if anyone actually starts using this, and how well that goes. Happy Renoising!

OSC only sending on Renoise startup
Hey everyone,
I am trying to get OSC messages sending from a lua script tool in Renoise. For now I just am using the OSC send example script from the renoise scripting webiste:
Blockquote
– create some shortcuts
local OscMessage = renoise.Osc.Message
local OscBundle = renoise.Osc.Bundle
– open a socket connection to the server
local client, socket_error = renoise.Socket.create_client(
“localhost”, 8000, renoise.Socket.PROTOCOL_UDP)
if (socket_error) then
renoise.app():show_warning(("Failed to start the " …
“OSC client. Error: ‘%s’”):format(socket_error))
return
end
– construct and send messages
client:send(
OscMessage(“/someone/transport/start”)
)
client:send(
OscMessage(“/someone/transport/bpm”, {
{tag=“f”, value=127.5}
})
)
– construct and send bundles
client:send(
OscBundle(os.clock(), OscMessage(“/someone/transport/start”))
)
local message1 = OscMessage(“/some/message”)
local message2 = OscMessage(“/another/one”, {
{tag=“b”, value=“with some blob data”},
{tag=“s”, value=“and a string”}
})
client:send(
OscBundle(os.clock(), {message1, message2})
)
Blockquote
I have my OSC monitor running (Protokol) and oddly this script will only send OSC messages right when Renoise is started. When I press execute or use the Reload All Tools option in the menu nothing is sent. I also tried some other scripts and I can’t seem to ever get OSC messages sent outside of startup. Anyone know how to get around this?
To be clear, my ports are forwarded and I am able to send OSC messages via python just fine, so I don’t think it’s a port issue.

Send multiple audio streams of different applications over the network - how?
While we are at it, why can we not stream multichannel audio and midi between Macs over a single TB4 cable? We need a standard for this already.

there is an extremely long thread about duplex in the forum but the command f function in this forum is a bit wonky.
I don’t think the github link is still active. anyone have any guidance?

Gnarly clicking when random LFO activiates effect
any advice on how to eliminate these nasty clicks?
is it DC offset?
I randomize the activation and deactiviation of effects like the repeater and delays etc with a random lfo and it produces a nasty click a lot of the time.

Im Working On A Small E.P
I’m working on a small E.P with a few songs on it at the moment, I will probably delete most of the stuff that is on my bandcamp currently and then upload this in it’s place as I feel that this is more worthy of serious presentation.
Expect acid, heavy breaks and singing.
I don’t plan anything, just sit at my computer and hit keys, see if it sounds good and then maybe play it back and repeat it.
Symphony Of Sporadic Instability.
I will update this thread upon release and completion
It probably won’t sound anything like Lifelover by the way

Drag & drop midi problem issue
If you drag & drop midi to a renoise track it creates a new pattern and a track and also a new instrument. So you have to move the pattern and swap the instrument number to the right one.
So… how could you import midi directly to the correct instrument number and in the track that you are draggin to?
Thank you,
Carles.

Native synths to build and use
hello renoise users,
Would you like to casually discuss building synths in renoise here.
I don’t use discord.
I like to do this sort of thing.
here is a little major scale for the stepper in the modulations tab
Major Scale -
64 snap divisions

-0.844
-0.656
-0.562

Spook Nooth.xrni (840.9 KB)
I made one with 128 steps, too. I like how it’s not in perfect tune.
I’m using a livid ohm64 controller.
But today I was thinking about setting up different LFOs to modulate parameters, too… one shot LFO’s triggered by note occurrences.
I’m curious about what people are doing out there
it seems like every year around this time I get re-obsessed with renoise for three months or so
