Creating A Specific Sound/Effect, But Not Knowing What It Is Called. Newbie Help
First off, I really struggled on what sub forum to post this under. I looked at the "Help, Support… " and also the “Tips & Tricks”. I went for this one, because of possibly similar posts (I did look) and ultimately interesting or comparable solutions. Apologies if I was wrong.
Hello, Reason (able) folks,
I purchased this software and have been playing around… blah, blah… piano roll not right for my head… blah, blah… nostalgia/Amiga/tracker youth etc… And now I’m seeing the first glimpses of deeper use but, for the life of me I cannot functionally find a way to replicate a specific technique that I have loved for decades. And the problem I have right now is how to expain what I’m even trying to ask, because I don’t know the technical lingo. I’ll do my best.
I am in no way looking for a simple solution (unless it is right there in my face, or a reliable and controllable VST to play with) but rather some guidance towards whatever the hell it is called, and options to look into. I just don’t exactly know how to describe it without a lot of babble, so my apologies.
Okay, imagine a sample/sound that you audibly pull back on itself while it is playing, to create a kind of stutter reverb effect. I can easily do this in Reason by recording live outside of the software, setting whatever samples I need to “autoseek”, pressing play and then messing around by dragging the mouse up, so the audio of all the samples combined create the effect I am looking for. I can be somewhat creative when it comes to ignorance, so I got what I needed. But it took me close to fifteen minutes of doing that to land on the perfect drop of the beat dither/subtle repeat/stretch that I wanted for a single thing.
I hope you can imagine the aural effect I tried to explain. My “hands on” creative try did not include any time stretch, but I think I am right in understanding that could be the beginning of what I’m grasping for.
I wish to have some way of applying that sound of fast stutter repetition with quick degrading drop offs that are controllable. For example, chopping up the words/lyrics of someone singing, but using Renoise to put markers so they snap (like a drum break) so it falls on the phonetics (no long “Ssss” build) but with a back end sound on every cut up punch that has a minor buzz-delay/repetition trail to it.
I ca do it manual if needed, but that is a lot of work for a very subtle thing I have in mind. So I had to ask if there are ways in Renoise to add that. My apologies for the TLDR, but I don’t know a few crucial words (I suspect) that would turn this rant into one paragraph.
Any help, pointers, or paths I should go down and explore would be wonderful. Very much appreciated.

Things about Ghost-notes
Hello!
I understand that we are in the graveyard with ideas here, however. I looked at the topic dedicated to ghost notes and to be honest, it seems to me that this function can be slightly improved and the notes will become much more useful. Especially when working with sliding in notes. Is it possible to add a simple command with the effect strength there. Since in my opinion this will be much more optimized on the screen.
Blockquote
С-4 01 <---- Instrument number
С-5 G1 <---- Glide level
C-6 G6 <---- Glide level
that is, instead of a single note number, you can also add various interaction scenarios. Such ghost notes could also be relevant for controlling effects with phrases within the phrase itself, replacing the not always convenient LFO.

to assign such a parameter, you can use either macros or some meta tool in which to bind one or more parameters. that is, in general, it could look like this
Blockquote
С-4 01 <---- Instrument number
С-5 M2 <---- Macro number
and to compensate for the effect of the stairs, you can give a smoothing effect with inertia.
the main idea is some optimization of the process
I’m interested in the community’s opinion on this matter.
Thanks.

Entering notes without pointing to instrument
Can someone tell me what’s happening here. Is this behaviour normal? When entering notes without refering to the instrument the ride is also triggered, but not from the beginning of the envelope it seems.

Keyboard shortcut for transpose block "not working"
Dear forum,
I’m a new user and have made custom shortcuts for transposing blocks and tracks.
The track shortcuts work, but the block transpose keyboard shortcuts behave in a strange way.
When I select a block, I can transpose it with the keyboard. When I tab to go to the next block on the next tab and press the shortcut, the first block is being transposed. If I click on a (new) block and try the keyboard shortcut, it works.
What can I do?
The culprit could be that even though the new block is turning green/selected, the old one is darker green but still “selected”. Hope it makes sense. If I press the keyboard shortcut “begin selection”, only one block is selected.
(Also, several times the shortcuts were deleted/not saved after I entered the shortcuts in preferences).

Hercules MIDI Controller mapping doesn't work
Hi folks,
after a while I just wanted to fool around a little bit in Renoise again.
I’m using a “Hercules DJ Control MP3 e2” as my MIDI Controller, just to turn some knobs. It’s my “In device A” under the MIDI preferences. But when I want to map something with Ctrl + M, select the button/parameter in Renoise and then press something on the controller, it doesn’t get recognized.
It worked before, that’s why I wanted to try it again. I am on Version 3.4.3 and the Controller is up to date as it gets (it’s quite old, I know). And it works fine, e.g. in Virtual DJ.
Am I just missing something in the setup process?

Linux: JC303 VST3 Plugin does not load with corrects settings
I added the JC303 Plugin from here GitHub - midilab/jc303: A Free Roland TB-303 Plugin for Windows, MacOS and Linux: VST2, VST3, LV2, CLAP and AU. A Juce port of Open303 engine. on my track. when opening the project the bass sound on track 3 sounds extremely noisy (do not make loud!). When switching the additional controls off and on the sound goes back to normal and switch it again to on it’s still fine.
The track is here:

Maybe that’s a plugin bug?

Screen Size - Screenshot please
I want to get a feeling how Renoise looks on different monitors with different scaling factors, etc.
Here’s screenshot of Renoise in full screen mode and scaling 100% on a 1920 x 1080 display with Full HD.
Especially I’m interesting how much space have on a 27" QWHD (2K) with different scaling factor. Pretty sure that with 100% this will be too small for me.
If possible please post the same view with spectrum analyzer closed and line 00 at the top.

How do i make a LFO Modulation so that everytime the note is played, it starts from center and then oscillates?
i really wanna get a Panning LFO Modulation going in the Modulation Mappings of the Instrument - but i don’t know how to do this, since the + - * / and others just confuse me.
what’s the go-to-route for getting a really slow panning going on with modulation devices, please?

Bug: Windows doesn't know how to load files from within a tool without bundlepath
this works on Linux + macOS:
renoise.app():load_instrument("Presets/file.xrni")Windows doesn’t. It demands
renoise.app():load_instrument(renoise.tool().bundle_path .. "/Presets/file.xrni")is there any chance Windows could work too, @taktik
EDIT: i mean, either all of them should demand bundle_path inclusion
or then none of them should demand bundle_path inclusion.

Compatibility with PowerToys Fancy Zones?
Hey, everyone.
I have a question regarding how Renoise handles its window detachment.
Here’s the thing: I use Power Toys to enhance my Windows experience. One of the most useful features is Fancy Zones, which allows me to me rearrange windows in consistent ways.
On the other hand, this is how I use Renoise, with a 2 monitor setup and detached windows:
As you can see, I manually detach and resize Renoise windows side by side.
The downside: they keep floating over other applications, resulting in plugin windows getting hidden sometimes:
Trying to divide the screen using fancy zones doesn’t work, unfortunately, because the windows do not attach to the zones (which can be seen behind, the two transparent squares)
And trying to use Always On Top on plugin windows so they don’t get hidden doesn’t work either…
Is there any way to make Renoise compatible with this? I honestly don’t think it’s possible, but just wanted to check…

Niche question - can anyone get 'command+f14'/'command+f15' available to map in Renoise on MacOS?
New Mac user here with the extended Apple keyboard, the one with the number pad.
I’ve managed to get most key commands that seem to be ‘reserved’ by the OS available in Renoise via a combination of disabling them in the OS settings and via Terminal (in the case of ‘option+f14’ and ‘option+f15’) but I can’t figure these last two out. Neither of them seem to do anything obvious when used outside of Renoise either, which kind of makes it harder to Google for.
Obviously missing two key commands isn’t massively crucial, it’s more annoying me than anything else . Just wondering if anyone else has tried and succeeded?

Renoise most often crashes during this process

What about us "four eyed" people?
Hi forum,
I’d really like to try out Renoise!
However, the size of the numbers/font is incredibly small. When I select “zoom”, and measure the size of e.g. “00” in the tracks column, it’s 1 (one!) mm high on my macbook air screen! I have a 23" screen, which increases the height to a little less than 2 mm. The text size is even smaller. WHY can’t I have Renoise zoom the size to say 5mm?
In the way, the four eyed people could use Renoise more than 5 minutes a day
Thanks,
B

I am searching for Monome Norns
Hello,
Does anyone know a working discount code for pushermanproductions.com?
Or does anyone want to get rid of Monome Norns?
I can’t deploy the image in Docker and I would like to write my own scripts for it.
Thanks

PSA: You can share the User Library with Ableton
- Cut and Paste ~/Documents/Renoise/User Library to ~/Music/User Library
- Symlink
Win
mklink /D "C:\Users\<YourUsername>\Documents\Renoise\User Library" "C:\Users\<YourUsername>\Music\User Library"
Mac
ln -s ~/Music/User\ Library ~/Documents/Renoise/User\ Library - Set location in Ableton
The original location /Music/Ableton/User Library remains if you need to transfer samples etc as only the structure is replicated, gather what you need and and delete it afterwards
The resulting file structure is very interesting and useful as they have no folders with same name, like they were made for each other!
