Clib vlib xlib - any screenshots or tutorials? wanna see what kinda gui elements these enable

Renoise Forum - August 21, 2024 - 08:50

hi has someone created a tutorial dialog that shows all the possibilities that these make possible?
is there a screenshot somewhere? i wanna know more.

i mean, i know there’s these three publicly archived things:

GitHub GitHub - renoise/vLib: GUI library/framework, modelled after the Renoise...

but
for instance this
To see vLib in action, download the tool from github:
https://github.com/renoise/xrnx/tree/master/Tools/com.renoise.vLib.xrnx

is 404

and
There is a packaged (renoise tool) version of xLib, configured to run some unit-tests: https://github.com/renoise/xrnx/tree/master/Tools/com.renoise.xLib.xrnx

this is also 404

so how do i anything?

i mean, i’m seeing these at least:

but uhh how to go about it.

No 'Enable keyboard' checkbox on VST plugin in Linux

Renoise Forum - August 19, 2024 - 00:03

I have the registered version of Renoise 3.4.4 and the latest version (1.3.4) of Surge XT VST plugin. I can type keyboard characters into the “search” text box within the plugin but not into the “save” dialog (for saving patches), nor in any other dialog.

Steps to reproduce:
Open Renoise
Create plugin instrument
External editor opens
Load patch (Surge) and click ‘save’
Try to enter text into fields of “Save patch” dialog

Expected behavior:
Plugin window has a checkbox at the bottom labeled “enable keyboard” to allow keyboard input to the plugin.
Check box ‘enable keyboard’
Type into ‘save patch’ dialog and click save.

Actual behavior:
No checkbox. Unable to type into dialogs within the plugin.

System info:
Renoise 3.4.4 registered
Ubuntu 22.04 LTS (GNOME desktop) amd64 - same behavior on Wayland and X11
Surge XT 1.3.4 VST3 plugin

Another fairly quiet update from Nomad Factory

Renoise Forum - August 16, 2024 - 18:28

Nomad Factory dropped another set from their collection that they’ve finished porting to their modern framework. The “Analog Mastering Tools” bundle which is a set of Brickwall look-ahead limiters. One is super basic, just input gain and output ceiling, plus 6 choices for release time. Another adds 2 EQ bands (shelving or peak, one for lows one for highs) and some additional control over the limiter. The third is a multi-band (3 bands) version with the same eq functionality. Follows a broad/general/specific sort of theme which I rather like. If you have a license for the v1 versions, these are free updates. Looks like they’re on promo for like $10 USD if you don’t have a license for the old versions. I definitely recommend these. You can push these incredibly hard and they don’t sound like any other limiter I have in my toolbox.

Nomad Factory We just launched Analog Mastering Tools v2

Dear friends, Today we are proud to announce the launch of Nomad Factory’s Analog Mastering Tools v2, replacing the previous version. This upgraded bundle version now has the individual plugins broken out and are now (at users request) available for...

Just thought I’d share, because I have really grown to love the Nomad Factory (Plug&Mix and BBE, too) plug-ins. Glad to see them getting spruced up and updated. Was very excited to see this update and am pretty amped to see the rest of their library get updated.

I copied a tape emulation chain from Bitwig into Renoise

Renoise Forum - August 16, 2024 - 16:44

RNS Tape Emu.xrnt (27.0 KB)

I don’t know if this will help anyone, it’s really subtle but I just tried to copy the “Subtle Tape Colorizer” chain from Bitwig and tried my best to replicate it in Renoise. I don’t know how the convolver works when sharing presets so I hope the wav impulse is there but if not, I just took the white noise sample preset, chopped it and loaded it into convolver. I only really made this because I use the subtle tape colorizer chain on a lot of things in Bitwig and was thinking I’d really like something similar in Renoise. Maybe this will be useful to some people? Or maybe not. Idk. Maybe someone could improve it? Try it for yourself. I didn’t apply any macros.

Instrument midi-channel layers

Renoise Forum - August 16, 2024 - 05:08

I’ve been using Redux inside Reaper, and was thinking it would be nice to have multichannel midi input to take advantage of multichannel audio out. This would mirror the way running Kontakt or Halion works, and would let us do more creative sound design in a single instance.

I’d like to be able to create some percussion/bass bus templates, basic song template kits, and that kind of thing. Would be really handy to be able to swap out samples and re-use phrases and all that. Seems like a natural direction for Redux.

Maybe this could be done by allowing the creation of extra channel layers in the keyzone editor, functioning similarly to the note-on/off layers, but assignable to different midi channels. I’m not sure how it would work with phrases and modulations. Would it be best to have different phrases/modulations for each layer, or should they be shared?

Music industry flaws

Renoise Forum - August 13, 2024 - 22:53

itunes grid layout which made it storelike unpacked, now it’s a featured artist scroll through. bleep was a direct itunes rip for eclectic folks under less pressure and redesigned after waarp to seem like a label rather than distributor. now it would seem that electronic music purchased is sent as links through email which defeats the option of online storefront shopping. find me a music for download storefront, please. is itunes an auto download site based on bank account input which has manually activated download access, that is a person sees your transaction and changes an option which enables download. is realtime bank account purchase and immediate download real, or is it crippling fake?

i write at too high of a level for my text to be changed, someone needs to shift gears.

CPU choice for Renoise

Renoise Forum - August 13, 2024 - 22:18

Hello everyone,

I’m planning to upgrade and go for a new pc in a few months, and that computer main and primary use will be for renoise. I’m using a panorama p6 for midi controlling and an icon 8s as audio interface.

I’m currently using a i7-3770 / 16GB ram and on the move it’s a i5-8350u / 8GB.
My typical renoise song carries between 10 to 40 tracks with massive use of real-time VSTs for orchestral songs. On the move I usually convert vst to instruments or render tracks to wave because of the lack of power.

I’m thinking workstation, second hand xeon (maybe a bi cpu motherboard as a possible future upgrade), with 32GB with at least 10 cores / 20 threads as I’d like to keep it to a measured budget (around 500€/$). I’m not going to game on this setup.

How will it compare in renoise to a recent i5 / ryzen with 4/6 cores but higher frequency ?

Are there renoise users with vsts out there with some recent xeon experiences that could be shared ?

Thanks everyone !

Neptune ("Live" Performance with Hardware Synths)

Renoise Forum - August 11, 2024 - 21:00

Hello everyone,
years ago I created a track in Renoise and a few days ago I “produced” it again with Behringer Pro-1 and Behringer K-2

The track is relatively simple, I just love it because it creates such a unique atmosphere in my ears. For this reason I wanted to perform it “live” again.
To support it, I played my own sample, which I recorded beforehand, and 2x a software synth TAL - MOD, which supports the pad.

How to render as heard?

Renoise Forum - August 11, 2024 - 10:21

I am rendering some patterns and the rendered file has noticable mistiming artifacts with Cx (notecut) and GFF effects (rendered file vs normal playback). I am using 10% master groove, so maybe it’s a timing issue there?

Anyone know of any pitfalls to be aware of?

Edit: Realtime render does it correctly. Phew…

How to do DC Offset using LUA?

Renoise Forum - August 11, 2024 - 08:15

hi, how do i recreate the DC Offset feature using LUA, please?

Especially this:

it seems it’s destructive and can result in really snappy sinewave drums etc. i just need to know how to replicate this. is there a way of opening up what DC Offset does, somehow, for api functions? @taktik

What's your approach to resampling?

Renoise Forum - August 9, 2024 - 14:50

As we all surely know, resampling is one of the core features in renoise and a great way to explore new territories with sampling and effects. It’s a feature I use heavily and I’m always looking to improve/learn new ways of using it.

One thing that has repeatedly come up is how to use resampling in a track while keeping all samples/tracks tidy. For example, I create Track 1 with a VST synth as its source. Let’s say I add chorus and bit-crush to it and input some notes into the tracker. Now I want to resample that audio and use it as its own instrument. I render to sample and renoise creates a separate instrument slot with the recording. What I usually do is create Track 2 and play the resample there, with no effects as they are already baked in.

My question is, do you guys tend to keep the original Track 1, create Track 2 for the new resample and continue producing? I find myself having a ton of original tracks and then a “mirrored” amount of “dry” resampled tracks with the effects already baked in.

This can get a bit complicated to organize (plus having to mute Track 1 so the original notes do not play, only the resampled ones). I even began deleting the original track altogether and practicing that destructive workflow. But I wonder what other renoise user do.

How do you approach this in your projects? Have you found a workaround?

Sample not showing up in files?

Renoise Forum - August 9, 2024 - 13:21

Hi, so I downloaded the Renoise demo around 40 minutes ago, and I’m trying to sample a drumbreak, and so I added the folder with the drumbreaks to the sample file in my file explorer, but it isn’t showing up in Renoise. How do I make a file appear in the samples tab on the right? Sorry if this is a really dumb question, but I can’t figure it out.

Adjust volumes of instruments

Renoise Forum - August 8, 2024 - 21:19

Let’s say I’ve got a song that includes around 100 instruments (incl. samples) and I need to lower the volume of every single instrument by for example 4.5 dB. I’m talking about the volume values that can be found in the Sampler tab (Sample Properties) or within the Plugin tab. Is there a way to adjust ALL instrument volumes at the same time? Or do I need to adjust the volumes one by one? Never needed to do this, but in this case I do. Thanks!

Controlling turn effect (`x001`) probabilistically and exclusively

Renoise Forum - August 7, 2024 - 12:18

If I write 1001 or 1000 in the global FX column, I can enable/disable the effect device for that track, but what is the simplest way to make this work probabilistically and exclusively?

Specifically, I would like to control the activation of Repeater by probability, and I thought I could do that by putting Y00 or something in the Global FX column, Group FX column, etc., but it still doesn’t work.
