How to send MIDI notes in a 'legato' fashion?
@fredeke wrote:
Hello everyone.
Here’s my issue: I’m controlling an external synth with Renoise via MIDI (a Moog Sub37, if you need to know). The preset on the synth uses glide in a legato fashion, which means that it glides only when MIDI notes overlap each other. That is how I want it, and it sounds great when I directly play the synth’s keyboard.
But when sending MIDI notes from a Renoise sequence, there is no glide. That is because Renoise always sends a Note Off message just before the next Note On. So there’s no overlap.
The obvious solution would be to create two columns in my track, and alternate notes between them. I don’t like it because it’s ugly and confusing to look at, and twice more keyboard gymnastics to write down.
Is there a way to delay the Note Off messages ? Or some other way that would result in short overlaps (even a 1ms overlap would do) ?
Note that I also use manual Note Offs in the composition from time to time, so that a last note of a phrase doesn’t go on indefinitely. This I obviously would like to keep
Thanks for reading so far

The Ableton thread
@ffx wrote:
Hi,
today Ableton 10.1 was announced, featuring very interesting features like VST3 support and magic trackpad gestures support:
Info
Also this new delay device looks great:
See those new modes “Fade” and “Jump”, it looks to me like Taktik made it (which I don’t know of course). Did they manage to implement a working multi-fade mode (also smooth while delay length changes), or is it a single fading? Once Vojtech of meldaproduction told me that multi-fading was mathematically impossible.
What do you think about it? Does VST3 support mean that note expression already is there, too? Will MPE then follow?

Favourite sequencer?
@jljosh02 wrote:
What’s everyone’s favourite non-tracker music software? I like FL Studio best. I like it’s native effects/synths and the way it handles arrangement and composing. I’ll admit if it weren’t for Renoise’s far cheaper price tag and better sample manipulation options I probably would have chose FL over it. Maybe when I have enough money someday I’ll pick it up and use it as my secondary DAW.

VST Pitchbend n00bcode
@Pansar wrote:
Hey peeps!
A newborn tracker here. Very early days, but im completely sold on the whole tracker paradigm after using Live and such for the last 20 years or so.
Anyway.
My question is, what do mitch murder do to get his pitch bends so smooth/to avoid the stepping? (see image)
[Album] Imgur
I’m guessing he increase the ticks between lines/raising the resolution?
Not sure what the Cut command is about there… Any light on the matter would be cool!
(I get that he is affecting the notes in the left track, but doing so on another track. So he can affect all the notes at once?)

How to set sample base note?
@Zyl wrote:
Renoise treats all my samples as being note C-4 when most of them are something else. How can I specify what note it actually is so when I put a note in the pattern editor the displayed note will actually match what is being played?

New Tool (3.1.1): Slice Importer v1.0 (February 2019)
@Raul wrote:
SLICE IMPORTER. What is this?
Slice Importer include a double function allows copying or pasting the slice markers of the first sample between instruments.
Remember that it is necessary to always work on the first sample! If you copy more slice markers than those allowed by the target sample, they will only be pasted to the last allowed marker.
Access: “Sample Editor/Slices/~Copy Markers… (or ~Paste Markers)”.

FX order of Txx with Oxx/Ixx pattern effect commands
@4tey wrote:
I don’t know if this is intentional in any way (or just how the commands interact), but I’ll mention it…
I’ve attached a little simple example xrns. 2 Patterns, simple sine wave sample. First pattern is with the Oxx (fade out) command first in the FX order on the left, with the Txx (tremolo) command on the right. Seems ok. Get a fade out with a tremolo. 2nd pattern I’ve swapped the order of the Oxx/Txx commands. Still get a fade out, but (as far as I can hear) no tremolo is applied. Similar replacing Oxx with Ixx
twinkle_trem.xrns (5.1 KB)
Maybe not a big thing, if that’s how it is then keep the tremolo on the right in the FX columns when using Oxx/Ixx commands.

Jump to loop start/end point
@boonier wrote:
When trying to fine tune a loop, I find myself wishing there was a key command to jump to the respective boundaries of the loop as it helps to be able to see the relative levels of the sample at each marker. Is this currently possible?

Can you save marker locations so other samples can use them?

This would save me so much time. Wondering if it is possible?

View modes for spectrum/scope and DSP chains
@delt wrote:
Hello again, sorry for starting a new topic for this, but i thought it would be less confusion since… well, it’s a different topic
This idea is for view modes. What would really be awesome for the spectrum/scope area is an extra view mode with two big oscilloscopes side by side.
Another would be regarding the DSP effects chain which is always confined to the bottom of the screen. It would be very useful to have a view mode where all effects of the selected track are stacked one on top of the other, taking up the entire screen. This would mean a lot less scrolling horizontally along the bottom strip where the effects are, and would allow to see many more at once. For bonus points, doofers could maybe have a collapse (same line) vs. expand (effects in it also stacked vertically, maybe indented at the left to show which are part of the doofer) …? just an idea

A few midi/routing enhancements
@delt wrote:
Hello everyone, it’s been a while since i posted here! Just posting my suggestion for enhancements to midi in Renoise. Hopefully this will be added to List of feature suggestions for Renoise
First one is more for hosting plugins for live performance rather than tracking or sequencing, but here goes… it would be really nice if the same instrument could receive on more than one midi channel, for example if i have several keyboards, sounds or whatever, each on its own midi channel, but i want the same pad layered on all of them. Currently i have to duplicate my pad instrument for each channel i need, and then it’s a pita to change selections on all of them, or delete and re-duplicate etc.
The second is more for tracking, i’ve mentioned it before i believe - it would be nice if the same notes in the pattern editor could trigger more than one instrument at once, instead of having to duplicate the track and change instruments. The advantages of this are pretty obvious =) I think you can probably use some weird midi-mapping trickery to achieve this, but anyway… plus you’d still be stuck in certain situations for ex. when a track changes between different instruments, and so on.
Off the top of my head that’s it for now, aside from the other feature requests i mentioned before, like toggle sharp/flat view mode, relative tempo changes with ZTxx, and the ability to map “,” and “.” to commands instead of C and D notes (they’re duplicates of Q and W anyway) and put back the ability to have the same sample in different zones of an instrument like before.

Attachments Missing
@The_Bard_sRc wrote:
I was trying to follow an old thread yesterday to try and figure out how to do something (Waveform Crossfading in this case) and couldn’t figure out what I was missing trying to understand it. I ended up looking at a cached copy of the thread to see if something changed, and found out that it used to have attachments before the forum change and they’re not there anymore. Are old attachments on this and other threads going to be restored eventually, or are they just gone?

A new techno track I recently finished is premiered here in the latest edition of the norwegian LYD podcast, at around 1:00:08 (just click the link to jump there). Good show, check it out
Made with Renoise + some hardware. Pretty happy with it, and always both fun and a bit challenging to make those 5/4 bars work well in techno. Guess it’s a bitch to beatmix, so might have to add in some straight intro beats there, we’ll see…
