Cancel last operation

Renoise Forum - April 8, 2020 - 08:46

ciao everyone, I have been using renoise since version 2.6, I have purchased since version 2.7 up to now I have always used renoise, unfortunately I have never understood how to cancel the last operation that I performed. For example, if I make a cut in the wave editor and I’m wrong, I can’t cancel the last operation, and every time I have to reload the sample and start editing again. can someone explain how to do it, i’m sure this command exists in renoise but i don’t understand how to use it, there is a keyboard shortcut or a click from the maouse. please

linux or mac versio is keybord shortcut is indifferent for me. i use togheter

best regards

Thonk is Withholding My Refund Because They Feel Upset About a Word I Used

Renoise Forum - April 7, 2020 - 20:25

@cupcake wrote:

Steve Grimley-Taylor (user Monobass on Muffwiggler) is flouting UK trade laws by refusing to refund my payment outside of the PayPal dispute i have had to open against his company Thonk Ltd (www.thonk.co.uk). This is all because he misread a comment i made in an e-mail and is now expecting an apology for a slight which wasn’t even given. I am going to place this message in every forum i have access to, so that people can see that the company is operated by a person who doesn’t have any concern for customer service, and believes it is ok to drag things out to cause distress and inconvenience to a repeat customer.

Do not buy from Thonk Ltd if you dislike these petty grievance practices and the way they disregard customer care.

Looking for a low profile mechanical keyboard on a budget

Renoise Forum - April 7, 2020 - 10:33

@T4kso wrote:

There’s a set of options for such keyboards and after doing my own research I’ve came down with 3 of them that look suitable for me.
1.The Reddragon K589 Shrapnel rgb edition
2.the Havit hv-kb395l and
3.The havit hv-kb492l, which I’m not sure if it’s that low profile as the others 2 but it’s more accessible for me to buy.
Which one you’d think could be the the best buy out of these 3 and if someone owns the kb492l, I’d like to know how it feels like.
Any new recommendations are welcomed as well

Dedicated renoise controller

Renoise Forum - April 6, 2020 - 22:10

@Terumi wrote:

Hey people,
A few months ago I bought a hardware sequencer/ sampler (mpc live) and I started making music with it. A few days after having bought that, I saw a teaser of polyend tracker and I thought that it would be something that I could work with.

Today, after some time, I booted renoise and although It is the environment I adore making music on, I felt it has lacking the tacktile, hands on approach the dedicated boxes have.

I am sure that the qwerty keyboard is one of the fastest input methods, and If somebody knows the key shortcuts very well, the whole process can be very fast. Still you still need to grab the mouse say for adding or tweaking effects, which it felt like a drag, unintuitive and uninspiring.

Now, I am a programmer and I have some basic knowledge of electronics and I though that maybe it could be possible to create a dedicated controller for renoise.
For that I wanted to ask if somebody knows, what are the methods, apart from keyboard, midi and osc you can communicate with renoise, is there an api for that or something or you’ll just have to simulate keystrokes with your controller? Do you know how the “dedicated” controllers work? Do they send midi messages to the daw they work with, or does anything else happen?

Cheers!

Orca. Now for something completely different

Give your “Inner Weird Person” some fun. This has got to be one of the strangest music producing apps I’ve ever run across and it’s a hoot.

Orca: https://github.com/hundredrabbits/Orca which runs using javascript or this one:
https://github.com/hundredrabbits/orca-c#raspberry-pi which is coded in C.

I’ve used C based one and it works a treat. Raspberry Pi’s are ARM based but I compiled it without any changes or problems on my x_86_64 system. Weird to learn, but fun to mess around with.

Cheers and stay well.

Renoise can't open AIFF audio files

Renoise Forum - April 6, 2020 - 20:14

@idem345 wrote:

I’ve bought a sample CD and the included samples come in .AIFF format. But it seems Renoise can’ topen them. I get the error message: “Windows DirectShow Audio: no decoder can handle the given audio file, or decoding failed (Internal Error: ‘Failed to render the graph [80040266]’).”

I wonder what’s the problem here? All the other programs that I regularly use (Audacity, Foobar, Reaper) are able to open these files without an error. I don’t think I had problems with .AIFF files before in Renoise either.

Here is the audio sample in question: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1SmPS5f2_d8C5BbNo0B0Z3ZWDt9D1zlEc

Using OSC inside of Renoise

Renoise Forum - April 6, 2020 - 18:55

@The_Traveler wrote:

Howdy all, I’m wondering if anyone is using Renoise’s OSC internally? The Renoise OSC API docs says it “allows messaging across program boundaries” so I take that as meaning internally. I know OSC works fine when sent by an external program (Processing in this case using the oscP5 library). However, I’d like to port my Processing main program over to Lua as an .xrnx and keep the OSC messaging functionality if possible because it works the way I want it to already.

Any observations, musings or advice? Cheers.

Renoise on a mini laptop?

Renoise Forum - April 6, 2020 - 18:52

@Adhrast wrote:

Hi everyone!
I’ve been lurking for a very long while before finally deciding to sign in and join the fun
After having my chiptune period with LSDJ almost 10 years ago, that was my last experience with a tracker, and with making music in general. Just turned 29 and I feel like going back to making music, studying theory and everything.
For now my mid2015 Macbook Pro is holding on, apart from the battery, and that’s what I’m looking to run Renoise on, but I recently discovered tiny laptops like the GPD Pocket, or the One Mix 2S, or the Peakago, and I kinda feel mezmerized by those tiny machines.
Has anyone ever tried to use something like that for music production, and Renoise in particular? If I’m using more samples than VSTs, how CPU intensive is Renoise? Would it run on such relatively underpowered devices?
I was also considering running Linux, would that help?
Thanks in advance to those who will participate in the discussion

Pattern Editor Question

Renoise Forum - April 6, 2020 - 13:30

@DougieJones wrote:

Why is it that some of my patterns in the pattern editor have little upward arrows in the top-left corner of the pattern icon, and some do not? These patterns seem to be behaving like aliases because the modulation in one is duplicated in another. But they do not have a number in them which would indicate that it is an alias.

I’m sorry if this is an obvious question, but the user manual doesn’t seem to have enything about it.

I sincerely appreciate the help,

Dougie Jones

Renoise crashes when using VST/AU

Renoise Forum - April 5, 2020 - 23:23

@Finsternis wrote:

This has started to really annoy me recently, as Renoise seems to crash regularly after a while when i’ve used some VST or AU -plugin. It typically crashes at the moment when im trying to open the external editor of the plugin.

And this seems to happen with different versions of Renoise like 2.8.0 and 3.1.0…

Something worth mentioning is that this problem didn’t occur that often before I updated to MacOS High Sierra (10.13.6.) so… Coincidence?

So, does anyone know what to do to avoid this, and what might be causing it? This is seriously annoying.

The message that appears during the crash is:
“A fatal error or crash occured (unhandled exception in thread: GUI).”
