Trojan/False Positive in the installation file?
@Cedric wrote:
Hello, ive download both the 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Renoise and both installation files have been identified as “Trojan.Win32.Hesv!O”
Has the Renoise website been infected recently or is this a false positive?

Delete/Insert sample mappings?
@PPH wrote:
Years ago I made a little tool that has been very useful to me: it uses the file names of samples to automatically generate key mappings. That worked with Renoise 2.8. Then the API changed and the tool didn’t work in the new versions. It didn’t even load. I didn’t have the time or the energy at the time to attempt to make it work in the new versions, and left it at that. I never released the tool. When I needed it, I just used Renoise 2.8. But each time I used it, I thought it would be nice to release it, since I think it could be very useful to others.
Now I want to make it work in Renoise 3.1 and managed to make it load (by changing the version number in the manifest; duh). But there are two functions that aren’t available anymore:
instrument:delete_sample_mapping_at(renoise.Instrument.LAYER_NOTE_ON,
#instrument.sample_mappings[renoise.Instrument.LAYER_NOTE_ON])
instrument:insert_sample_mapping(renoise.Instrument.LAYER_NOTE_ON, baseNotes[i][2], baseNote, range)
My guess is there must be some easy replacement for that code. So the question is: how does one delete and how does one insert a sample mapping in an instrument nowadays?

Duplex : new 4 tracks global config for Launchpad mk2
@lymix wrote:
Hi
I made a special config for the Launchpad mk2 to use with a 4 track song
It has a 4*8 gridpie, 4 solo, 4 mute, 4 track select, transport and a mini keyboard, plus dedicated pads for the repeater.
i made it cause i wanted all those functions on a single layer without switching configurations (playing a live set wtih 4 instruments /tracks)
If anyone 's interested i can share it.

Licorice Skin for Renoise
@Neuro_No_Neuro wrote:
Since we don’t have a Skins Category on the forum here (almost ALL of the searches that Google has cached lead to an “Oops! That page doesn’t exist or is private.” page, does anybody have the Licorice Skin? It looks great. Would like to be able to use it

Keyboard variety in pattern editor
@Macgomes wrote:
Hello everyone,
When I am not using the keyboard ( real one ;), thus only composing from the pc key board , it would be verry handy to see the chord / notes played .
So maybe there’s some place in the spectrum analyzer/scope view to show the keyboard

Scripting Terminal editor...?
@Lincon wrote:
Hello everyone,
I’m reading on some places about a scripting and editing terminal for Renoise but I can’t find anything like it on the tool page, nor on the Renoise site itself about it. Where and how do I get it?

Rediscovering my tracking past; inspired chiptune shares
@Anarkist wrote:
Hey all; I post pretty rarely, but using Renoise since 2003 (and other trackers going back). Not sure why but I’ve been on a particular nostalgia kick going back through a bunch of old tracker files and demo scene stuff. I use Renoise as 1/2 of my main DAW setup 100% these days, but while making more contemporary music. Being inspired by revisiting tracker history encouraged me to strip everything away in Renoise and utilize primarily column, panning, volume only and not much else. This is mostly inspired by early NES, 8 bit music, and chiptunes in general. I’ve done chip-inspired stuff from time to time historically, but it’s rare I share any of it these days.
I Just felt the impact of the scene on my life and wanted to share a few revisits of the past into the present. Here’s a couple of recent Renoise chiptunes inspired by the tracker music scene/game music.

Hey guys, another hip-hop instrumental for you guys to check out. In this case everything was done with a couple loops in Renoise. Kept the scratches with the U and D commands more subtle this time. I think I’m addicted to that command though.
Enjoy.

Idea from bitwig's sampler (or reason's grain)
@dspasic wrote:
Hi guys, not trying to be boring whatsoever, i just wanted to know if there is maybe some path in the future to improve sampler, having functionality of latest bitwig sampler update? - as it is main point of renoise (from my perspective)? Or like reason’s grain? - sorry yet again, i know that many people ask similar question if XYZ will be implemented or so…
If inappropriate, i will remove this topic ( or if it has been asked already).
Thanks in advance. (needless to mention that i love renoise as it is )

Last week I released a “semi-song” on soundcloud divided into two parts, experimental electro house would probably be the most accurate definition, but that’s up to you to decide. I hope you like the songs, any feedbacks or comparisons will be appreciated

[Bug / Good practice] Linux - Renoise doesn't use standard xdg directories / pollutes $HOME
@DWRL wrote:
Having not used Renoise for a while, I installed and ran it, and now I have two new directories in my home folder:
.renoise Renoise“.renoise” should probably go to “$XDG_CONFIG_DIRS/renoise”, e.g. “~.config/renoise”, to decrease folder load (which can be a problem on linux).
“Renoise” would best be moved to “$XDG_DATA_HOME/renoise”, e.g. “~/.local/share/renoise”, or, to ‘mimic’ current behaviour “$XDG_DOCUMENTS_DIR/Renoise” (which would be a no-go, see below).
For reference, XDG Base Directory Specification, precisely here, and a similiar bug report (with more extendend reasoning) on snapd here.
The dotfolder I don’t care to much about, albeit it would be nice.
The unsolicited Library folder on the other hand is an annoyance. It can’t be hidden, since on linux this would need me to rename it to “.Renoise”, which would be pointless (e.g. not working), and clutters my $HOME visibly.
It just doesn’t belong there. If every software did this, I’d have about 200 folders in my $HOME…
Right now I moved “Renoise” to “~/.local/share/renoise”, and use this script to start the application:
#!/bin/sh ln -s "~/.local/rennoise" "~/Renoise" renoise unlink "~Renoise"But this means unnecessary file operations, and isn’t exactly elegant…
