New Midi-Interface: Do I have to rework all my songs?
@Rubezahl wrote:
Hi,
so I have a certain USB-Midi interface for my hardware synthesizer and a ton of songs with Midi instruments which are configured to use that certain USB-Midi interface as Midi output device. If I just want to use a different USB-Midi interface, it seems like I have to reconfigure every Midi instrument in every song. Isn’t there a way to avoid this? Is there something like a virtual Midi output device that is mapped to a physical Midi output device?
Thanks,
Sebastian

BPM and other DAWs

Halp, when I render tracks, say at 200 BPM, 12LPB, and import them into Reaper with tempo set to 200 BPM, the clips are sped up.
I’ve tried searching, but couldn’t find out what I’m doing dumb. What’s up?

Transferring notation from pattern to phrase automatically using LUA?
@esaruoho wrote:
I’m trying to create a keyboard shortcut that would let me take a currently selected set of notes, copy them to clipboard, create a phrase of that selection length, paste the content in, and write the instrument phrase onto the pattern editor. how would i go about copying from the pattern editor to the phrase editor and setting the phrase editor length to be that?

Setting "New Phrase Preferences" using LUA

How to use the LUA API to specify preferences for Phrases? i.e. when you create a new phrase, it will always have: sample_effects_column_visible=false panning_column_visible=false delay_column_visible=false visible_note_columns=1

Writing to a specific line index (Selected Line Index) in the Phrase?
@esaruoho wrote:
Hi, I’ve been battling with this:
How to use the LUA API to write a Note-Off to a current phrase line (where the cursor currently is at) renoise.song().instruments[renoise.song().selected_instrument_index].phrases[renoise.song().selected_phrase_index].lines[renoise.song().selected_line_index].note_columns[renoise.song().selected_note_column_index].note_string=“OFF” but unfortunately this will write the “OFF” to where the cursor is in the pattern editor, not in the phrase editor.

"Switch selection" function in sampler view
@SoulSplendid wrote:
Hi,
I would love to see a feature or tool in Renoise that could switch a selection to left or right in the sampler view.
Does it exist or is it a good idea for the next version of Renoise?

Some small Linux installer and icon issues and comments about the new pattern font
@keybreak wrote:
@taktik
Allow me some constructive criticism…
I’ve tested only Linux x64 version, so don’t know if others are affected (but assume that yes).
It would be really cool to see bugfix release soon
P.S. Note that i’ve checked all 667 icons and absolute most of other ones not mentioned here are 100% perfectly done, my criticism comes only from deepest love & personal connection for Renoise and it’s design
P.P.S. Also there’s places where i write Too thin weight? mainly for 1.5x size - that’s i’m not 100% sure, it’s hard to judge outside of context for different displays, but worth to note.
Small things-
Show comments after loading - still doesn’t work, please fix it!
-
Installer script has mime associations only for songs, unlike Windows which have all those new types like instruments, presets, FX chains etc
-
Installer script links 48x48 icon. which is pretty small for modern DEs, especially on 4k (i think now Linux can safely use either 256x256+ or even svg)
-
Readme.txt have no history anymore
I think that was handy to have offline sometimes.

Just wanted to point that spacing has much more breathing room than 3.1 (In fact as you can see H-Spacing = 1 / V-Spacing = 2 now almost equal to H-Spacing = 0 / V-Spacing = 1), which is fine (i imagine it’s good to 4k+ screens, and you still can dial it back)
-
Personally i really dig bold font at 3.1, it drives my mojo, again i imagine probably lighter font was deliberately picked for 4k+ screens, but i would love to get an ability to choose bold variant like on 3.1.
(H-Spacing = 1 / V-Spacing = 2) Renoise 3.2
(H-Spacing = 1 / V-Spacing = 2) Renoise 3.2
(H-Spacing = 0 / V-Spacing = 1)

Send device questions
@cantti wrote:
Hello!
I have been working in the Renoise for quite some time, but I have two questions:
- is it possible to change default send device settings to keep source? So that it works like send knobs in other daws or mixer?
- Why when I turn off the group, I don’t hear the sources, but I hear them in the send channels? Can this be changed so that when you turn off the group, the send to the channels stops?
Thanks

Transform Multiply feature from EMU-X3. How to do something like that in Renoise?
@dspasic wrote:
Anyone familiar with EMU x3 feature transform multiply?
i don’t even know how that resembles to the sample.
I know that if i copy to clipboard some part of sample, i can “do it” on the other sample, or whole that sample, and it does do something with freqs, but i don’t know what exactly
Is this possible maybe in renoise? or anyone could elaborate? thanks

XRNS file size limit / bottleneck question
@Denim wrote:
Hi, I use more and more hardware synths, drum machines and mic recordings etc in my projects these days, and my XRNSes often land on typically 300-400 mb. And I’m just curious - exactly what determines how large an xrns can be? Is it basically just my own system (ram, cpu, drive space) or does Renoise have its own bottleneck in this scenario? Using Win7 64-bits (NTFS), maybe even Windows has its limitations?
Would be interesting to know, especially before I start planning any really huge projects (like a live performance or a 80 min epic ambient journey or something )

Recording vst output
@tw1psy wrote:
Hi, Is there way a straight way to record vst output as audio in renoise? I know that I can open the vst in another daw in rewire mode and record it as audio there but i wonder if there’s a cpu friendlier way to do it in renoise.
p.s; I’m doing this cause I find the 255 steps for note delay insufficient for registering the timings correctly and I don’t wanna make make lpb high as it would make the pattern roll too fast and I don’t like it.

Soundemote Prettyscope in Renoise
@Neuro_No_Neuro wrote:
I don’t promote too much in the way of VST/AU plugins around here, as I’m pretty much a Renoise ONLY within Renoise kinda guy. BUT!
It’s an audio visualizer that does a Lissajous-styled audio visualization. Plug it in, press play. It’ll pump to your music right away. It’s more than that, though. It can be automated via envelope. So, you can rotate your visual patterns (gotta edit the XML file - go talk to them about it), or have the lines and dots expand and contract. I use the LFOs as S&H style randomizers. So, it’s picking up and pumping with the transients, while giving you a generative visualization that’s really pretty to look at and can be as colorful or minimalist as you design it to be. Love it!
I used the song I posted here the other day, “Wavy” and updated the visuals to work with it via Prettyscope. Much better visuals.
I get a crash here and there, but it might be because I’m modulating the living hell out of it with LFOs. I’m able to save whatever I’ve done. You’ll have to edit the XML file a bit to automate some parameters via LFO, and you’re gonna have to read the manual a bit and watch the video on the webpage. Join the Discord server if you need more info.

Ho do I undo in the sample editor
@sleepingtiger wrote:
I’ve been using Renoise rewired into Pro Tools and I’m finding the routing cumbersome so I’m checking out Redux with Plogue Bidule to streamline things. Great so far except for a huge showstopper. I can’t for the life of me figure out how to undo in the sample editor. The Undo box is ticked but control Z does nothing and I can’t find anything on the interface of another command in the prefs. I feel so dumb! Can someone help? Thanks!

A little warning guys! Reaktors Photone as AU will
@KnownUn wrote:
Hi! Fatal error many many times, almost lost a beat. Reason was Reaktors Au version of Photone. I’m on the latest Renoise and the latest Reaktor. Got my first fatal error ever and I’ve been on Renoise for YEARs.
Is that an AU thing?
On a side note, and some positivity, if you love Absynth 5 you will love Photone in Reaktor.
