Controlling the keypress values?
So, I found a VST called DSK Guitars which has some really lovely sounding … sounds! … But the issue is that it’s made for a midi-keyboard where you can hard-press or lightly press a key and get different sounds. Or a more standard music production software.
How do I make a “light” press on a key when I only have a keyboard? I don’t have a name for it, or know what it’s called. So I can’t really search for an answer either. Haha…
Thanks for the help!

Keybindings break when exiting Renoise while in Language other than English
First of all, I’m sorry if the title sounds weird, I don’t know enough English to properly explain that in a short fashion.
So basically, as a person who has more than 2 languages for my input, I sometimes will forget what language I’m at (in this case, Thai) and close Renoise. The next time I open Renoise, my keybindings are all gone, and I’d have to reset it. This is not that much of a problem, but it irritates me every time it happens.
Here are the steps to reproduce the problem:
- Open Renoise. Loading a song here does not matter as I have seen no change.
- Switch your input language to something other than English (In my case, I used Thai).
- Close Renoise.
- Open Renoise again.
I did some tests myself, and the file attached here is the result of stage 3 (before running Renoise again). KeyBindings.xml (165.9 KB)
Apparently Renoise did save the keybindings in the input language instead of English, and I think that is the source of the problem. Any thoughts?

Tremolo in instruments
It was my old thought. . When one wants to do tremolo, he wants second note to sound different from first. Some try to vary volume. Some try to use another sample. For my ear you could use same sample, but instead of changing volume, change sample offset.
I used to like sfz and sf2 banks. I didn’t see free sf players that could do it, I mean adjusting sample offsets. Do you know?

Recording multiple cc's in same time (Expressive E Touché)
I had a long period of not making music so it is possible that i forgot how to do this. Renoise 3.1.1 currently.
Short story: Is there way to record all cc’s signal generated?
So i bough today https://www.expressivee.com/touche-se and i’m loving it as adding expressivness, but problem is that it’s generating very dense (4cc’s in same time and more) midi signal, and problem is that it looks like when i record it it writes to pattern only one command per line (and i suspect only last one), and it’s not enough when trying to record performance for Arche instruments. I’m using lpb 12 and its still not enough and i do feel like it would be good if there would be option to maybe select how many lines is creating on fx column, or something like that
Is there way to do it? I’ve tried to map controller to instrument automation device, but it doesn’t work because it is switching to controll their own vst if it is on list.

Bug probably related to Win10 scaling
I had it for some days when used 4k tv as monitor. Trial version didn’t show dialog about purchasing, instead after some time renoise hanged when I pressed play or undo buttons. Then I plugged fhd monitor and bug went away. Then I switched back to 4k tv, but bug didn’t return. I don’t remember exact windows scaling settings I had when bug occurred. So I can’t reproduce it, sorry.

New Tool: Keybindings Speed Bar
Hello all,
Based on a suggested feature to implement a speed bar I’ve slapped together just such a thing to make key bindings quickly searchable using fuzzy text search.
Screenshots:
I’ve tried to build it to get immediately out of the way when you press a key combination. It will read all alphanumeric input and backspace as input to the search. Escape will clear the search; hit it again to close the dialog. Any other key combination entered will immediately close the dialog and pass directly to Renoise.
Some notes:
- This tool will read your KeyBindings.xml file, which is outside of the Tools folder. Some people might argue that it’s bad design to leave the sandbox, but it’s the only way this tool will work, since there’s no other way I know to interrogate bindings via the API. Check out the source code to see that it’s only read, never written.
- You can bind your own shortcut to open the speed bar. I’m on a mac, and I’ve bound it to Option + spacebar - super easy, and super fast
- A future version might only show shortcuts relevant to the context of your Renoise session (i.e. if you’re in the Pattern editor you’d only see Global and Pattern Editor shortcuts), but for now you get everything.
Enjoy!

ReWire no longer showing up
Previously when I had Reaper running and I booted Renoise, Renoise would ask to become a ReWire Slave.
I said ‘no’ a couple of times cause I didn’t need at the time. But now I do need it is no longer shows up.
Renoise does not show up in Reaper’s ReWire list.
Did I offend it?
I’ve tried rebooting, reinstalling. Basically everything from this thread. I’m running the latest versions of Renoise and Reaper.
Any suggestions how to get it working again?
My specs:
Reaper v6.09 (x64)
Renoise v3.2.1 (x64)
Win7 sp2 64bit

Pop arrangement
Hi,
I am still here and still using renoise. Even if I am not on the forums a lot… I am sorry. Maybe I can participate more again. Here is my latest pop arrangement; no soundcloud because I’m working on a project with somebody, and I don’t want this flying all over the web. You can dl the mp3 from the link below
All renoise. A couple of VST synths.

Please include polyphase resampling, this is like classic dac, less interpolation error with filter.

LFO or Stepper to Phrase LBP
I was looking into this on the forum, and hadn’t found any possibilities (yet).
I had created a pattern and am able to set each note in a chord with its own 0YXX value. Sweet! Now I get random chord structure within my pattern.
Then I wanted to see if I could change the speed at which these chords are struck by affecting the LPB in the Phrases area, separate from the tempo of the rest of the song. This would be a GREAT feature in the Phrases section. That would create all sorts of melodic and rhythmic polyrhythms and/or allow notes to be ‘off tempo’ if desired. Another fancy feature to create even more generative music!
To reinforce my point. Not in the actual song area, but in the Phrases area.
If one was really dreaming big, the Timestretch function that was just added could be modulated by an LFO or Stepper to stretch audio loops. Would be fun! Probably CPU intensive.

Why do People go to Linux?
I have used Windows since 1995. I had an Apple Mac in 1997 but I have never used one since. I have been tinkering with Linux and dual booting it/virtual boxes since 2010. The first Linux that I installed for real on metal was Opensuse in 2011.
In October 2019 I left Windows for good and went totally Linux. I went to Ubuntu Studio and am still in it, soon to go to 20.04. This left a lot of expensive software useless because it does not run on Linux and I hate WINE. THat software has cost me money. But I still went all Linux. Why?
Because for all the sunk cost I was gaining two things: time and sanity. Windows used to be fun. When there was the XP search dog wagging his tail and you had nifty power toys. But now it is all pain; Windows 10 is the most atrocious excuse for an OS that I have ever seen. Apple Clarisworks in the 90’s was better. Every day in Windows 10 is a fight. Microsoft want one thing. They want you to log in with a hotmail account. Use Cortana! Your fifth and final chance to put off the update until it happens whether you like it or not; that sounds like a demand from The Godfather.
Then you fight back! You go to Britec’s videos [or someone else’s] on Youtube and you tweak away at the registry and become a skilled registry hacker. Or you grab some third party tool from goodness knows where to do it, like a guy in an alleyway whispering “I’m gonna keep you safe kid”. The game of ping pong begins! Microsoft to serve! It’s a Cortana volley! User defends into the open court! What a winner by Microsoft! They put Cortana where registry keys were greyed out! Next point…
Surely that is the definition of computer user insanity. To be fighting your OS every day to get what you want and need! How much time do people like Britec sink into all that tweaking! That is time that I save in Linux! It was a very, very hard decision. I looked exhaustively in all of 2019 at all options. I looked at any way that I could of still using Windows for my programs. I looked at React OS. I looked at Windows 10 Enterprise. But as a peasant who doesn’t use Volume Licenses I am not worthy of Enterprise 10! In this lifetime I must burn more Karma to be worthy!
Now, I am happy. I know that I made the right choice. I could have put off the inevitable and used my copy of Windows 8.1 . But what was the point? 2023 will soon come around. I have to go to Linux anyway. I cannot see any future for Microsoft in the consumer space. They are headed towards becoming another IBM, Even their Xbox they are trying to wreck by doing stupid things with the card slots. Nadella is a complete idiot. That clown could not run a girlie bar in an army base. Absolutely nothing excites me about their garbage anymore. I got to the stage where Windows was so depressing that I didn’t want to look at my computer.
I still have a renoise license. I had to uninstall it for various reasons. Nothing to do with Renoise itself. Might put it back on after I upgrade to Ubuntu 20.04. I am gone for good. The Microsoft universe is dead to me. I never want to ever see a Windows desktop or program ever again. Apple is dead as well. Pity. They make some nice computers. But their walled garden is a joke. Their quality of engineering has gone downhill; see the Louis Rossman channel on YouTube.
It was a big decision. Because I zonk myself out of many careers. You have to know Windows to work in computer security for instance. But I had to do it. Or just spend hours of wasted time on Windows nonsense.

Crackling at ~50% DSP load, but no xruns (with RT PREEMPT kernel) Part II
I was not aware that the topic really gets closed, so I just open another one
Old thread: Crackling at ~50% DSP load, but no xruns
Finally I found out that the crackling in Renoise (without showing any xruns) apprears only with the RT PREEMPT kernel.
When I play the project (which is a 16 line long loop) with the RT PREEMPT kernel booted I get constant crackling without any xruns.
When I use the stock Debian kernel I get xruns only during the first loop and then they disappear. So the DSP load is higher at the beginning and then goes down again.
Are usually unsing RT kernel when using Renoise in Linux? Officially it is recommended, but in my case it makes more problems.
