Waldorf Largo patch save and recall
Hi all. By way of introduction I’m a new user for maybe the last month or so, and I’m very much still learning. I used to use Octamed on an Amiga about 30 years ago, but haven’t sequenced music since those days. Getting back into it due to the enforced layoff from work (music biz admin).
I like the power of Renoise and the fact I can get my head round it easier than Cubase, Logic, GarageBand etc., because I used trackers before. So I was able to create songs within a few days of downloading Renoise, and I’m using samples, my old midi gear (Novation Bass Station rack, Roland Juno 2, Quasimidi 309), plus a Waldorf VST called Largo, which is replacing my old Waldorf Micro Wave 2. Now, I know that Waldorf wavetable synths aren’t for everyone, but I loved my old Micro Wave and the Largo is a cool replacement for it…BUT…I find the file system of it very clunky and almost unworkable. It came with some soundsets installed (the factory set of 128, all programmed by Waldorf, plus a few other sets from outside programmers). I love to edit and muck about with sounds so I program my own a lot. But the system for saving these is bad (they end up as individual sounds stored on my Mac, and don’t show in the Largo’s “Browse” screen).
Has anyone got around this, and is there a simple way for Largo to store your own patches and arrange them in your own soundset, rather than as individual sounds floating around my Mac? Cheers all.

New Tool (3.2) Tagged Plugin Search
New Alpha, may need some bug squishing so don’t rely import/export just yet for saves -See using XRNS songs as extra/ master backup. Import/export testing will be helpful though.
Tagged Plugin Search (fx only)
ledger.scripts.TaggedPluginSearch_V0.5.xrnx (23.9 KB)
Main Window has three pages with 12 tags per page. The first page is reserved for the renoise native devices that have been categorised as shown. User 1 and User 2 are for your own tags and plugs.
Non-Obvious stuff:
-
[R] is a random button, and just chooses a random plug suggestion from the selected tag.
-
To access Edit Names and Edit Tags Buttons you need to be on User 1 or User 2 page
////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
The Manage Tags page (below) has:
- add/ remove plugs to tags - The basic buttons that add 1 plug or remove 1 plug are the leftmost.
- Import/ export your tag template (this needs testing for reliability and later version ‘may’ not add early alpha saves). However in order that you can future-proof your saved tags you can use the main save buttons in concert with a couple of XRNS songs:
Basically load your plugs for one page in an empty XRNS made up to 12 tracks. Add your sorted plugs to each track (track = tag). Name the tracks what you want to call the tags and save this XRNS. The tool can then read the XRNS with [+] Tracks 1-12 button and your work sorting the plugs is preserved in the XRNS. (one song required for each page)
- When this page is open, use its USER 1 and USER 2 buttons to navigate pages (not ones on main page)
- Info section:
Unadded Plugs - lists all available plugs that are yet to be added to the tool.
Missing - lists any plugs that the tool has in tags that are not available in renoise. i.e. they have been un-installed.
/////////////////////////////////////////////
Edit Tag Names Simply name/ re-name your tags for pages 1 and 2 here:

Keyboard range too small
I noticed a problem when playing with Native Instruments India, the library has a full keyboard range in its ensemble patch, but Renoise can’t play above B-9, and I can’t even transpose notes above it, so some instruments can’t be played at all. Can something be done to make it work? I tried transposing the actual instrument also but it doesn’t help.

Lua: Slice Markers Beyond Sample Length
- This topic has similarities to a previous one.
This video demonstrates how it’s possible to move existing slice markers and insert new ones beyond the sample length. When a sample is edited, any slice markers are moved first and then the sample buffer is changed. So a slice_markers notifier can be used to place slices into the section that will not exist afterwards.
As the video shows, this can lead to some garbled or non-existent samples. The real problem is that they’re completely inaccessible and cannot be moved/deleted.
While these extraneous slices might seem harmless in this small example, in more complex code they can cause hard crashes. After changing the sample buffer, Renoise should probably check for any slice markers that are beyond the sample length and delete them.
Code from the video:
bypass = false sample = renoise.song():instrument(1):sample(1) sample:insert_slice_marker(1000) sample:insert_slice_marker(2000) a = sample.slice_markers[1] sample.slice_markers_observable:add_notifier(function() if bypass == false then if a ~= sample.slice_markers[1] then marker_stuff() end end end) function marker_stuff() bypass = true sample:move_slice_marker(sample.slice_markers[2], 2500) sample:insert_slice_marker(2600) bypass = false rprint(sample.slice_markers) end1 post - 1 participant
(Demo)The Lost Tango(Katerina Vaiou ft PanosK)
Hello you guys!!So i am working on a new song, music by Katerina Vaiou lyrics and singing producing by me.I stumbled on her instrumental in soundcloud and it hit me right in the heart. In a matter of minutes i wrote the lyrics and new how i wanted it to be.Dont mind the mix it will be fixed soon all i want to know is if you like the structure. Also i have sang some lyrics wrong in the begging and there is a mixture of Greek and English lyrics.
stop don’t move a muscle
stop dont even breathe
i want to see you one more time
i want to touch you one last time
Ξερω οτι βιαζεσαι να φυγεις(I know you are in a hurry to go)
Ξερεις ομως θα θελα να μεινεις…(But you know i want you to stay)
Please one more dance one last dance
time is running out for me and you again
Please one more dance one last dance
time is running out for us at last we re free?!
At last…?!
(I know that no matter how many years pass i left a mark in your heart)
Ξερω πως ομως οσα χρονια και αν περασουν
εχει σφραγιδα ανεξιτηλη η καρδια σου
(But I know sadly that what he had is gone for ever)
Ξερω πως ομως οσα χρονια και να ζησω
οτι και αν ειχαμε δεν θα γυρισει πισω

Renoise will not load song (After failing to find Synth1 VST)
I recently resumed work on a song that I started my old CPU (but still made with Renoise 3.2.1) When I opened it up, it gave me an error that it cannot find Synth1 VST. I don’t use Synth1 VST anymore since it has run buggy on Mac for a while, but never bothered to uninstall. I removed Synth1 VST instrument track and resumed work. After running fine for while, now I cannot open the file and it gets stuck on the spinning rainbow wheel. I deleted Synth1 and all of its files from my plugin folder. All the instruments are samples and other Plugins that have worked fine, Only weird thing I can find with this song is the Failure to Load Synth1.
2020 MacBook running Catalina.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Psychedelic Trance in Renoise
Hi!!
If you have mix feedback, please tell. This mix was too complicated, and it has many automation parts, and volume changes. If you are going to give mix feedback, please listen to entire track, as some parts in the mix, have very quiet and heavily filtered drums for production effect. Other parts the drums should be nice, loud and clear. It should be obvious what parts are what…
I mixed and export this song a bunch of times, because ever time I played it back on Cyber Powerlink Media player I heard a very high pitch artifact on my kick drum. It wasn’t till I played the render back in Renoise that I figured out, “cyber Powerlink media player must have a bug.” I hear no high pitch artifact in Windows Media player.
If you hear a high pitch artifact… please tell me…
This is the first Psy trance song I make in many, many years. I hope it will be my last. Because Psy Trance, is such a bloody headache. It is so much work to make this kind of stuff.
99.999% Renoise. I take the export, I drop in Cubase Pro, I make it loud, and done. Everything else, Renoise. Oh, and this is all Renoise Instruments too. There actually isn’t a synth in here anywhere… all samples.
Kind regards,

On the Renoise instrument... Is there an S&H LFO that I am missing?
For the native LFO that you can use to modulate parameters, such as, “the frequency of the cutoff, of the filter, on a Renoise instrument.” Is there an option for Sample and Hold?
I believe we have sine, ramp, sq, and random…
Is there something native that I can use Sample and Hold?

Trying to click on pattern in pattern seq doesnt work
Hi everyone,
I am new to renoise and I must say I love the layout and the concept of tracker style seq
I have been following a tutorial and when I create a few seq patterns I try to click on the seq number to select the pattern but it doesn’t switch to that pattern. Instead I have to use the scroll bar to move down until it moves to the appropriate pattern.
see the screen shot below I select pattern 1 but it does not shift focus to pattern 1.
I am using 3.2 and Macbook pro
I click on the orange pattern number but no joy.
any help would be appreciated.
thanks
Matt

Terse Lua Reference
Just learned of this. It gives brief examples for the essentials of the Lua language.
The title is Learn Lua in 15 Minutes though I’m not so sure that’s exactly true. : )

CPU LOAD Question
Hello together!
I have a Question to Renoise CPU Load. While Playing my actual Project (quite little) The CPU Load showing by Renoise is about 45 % but Processexplorer says me 12 %?! Can it be that my Renoise is not using complete CPU Power?
with best regards

Orchestral Template in Renoise Video
I made this guide about making an Orchestral Template in Renoise, where I go through routing and other more technical stuff, there isn’t any actual music writing. I did my best to cover the most important things in less than 20min, but I’m not very good at editing.
I hope this video is helpful in regards to working with any number of third party sample based instruments. The most important take-away point is to group and route tracks together with channels from the sampler to organize the mess a little, proper titling and color coding is also nice!

[DUPLEX] APC20 Step sequencer?
Hey this is my first post here, just started playing around with Renoise, great software !
I recently installed the Duplex Tools, which allows me to use my APC20 in different ways, but what I would be really interested in is using it as a step sequencer (similar to the Duplex Sequencer mode on the Novation Launchpad), I’ve tried copying the config files from the launchpad and manually “porting” them to the APC, but being kind of a noob, it eeh, kinda almost works, close but no cigar I guess
There was a previous topics (linked below) within which an user shared a config file for doing exactly this but I can’t access the link (“Oops! That page doesn’t exist or is private.”)
Duplex Step Sequencer For Apc20? Renoise Tools Ah no, it didn’t include the config for the StepSequencer app. (Actually it’s easy to replace Matrix to StepSequencer, though [;)] ) Please wait a bit. Anyhow, I have to re-consider the layout since now we have the TrackSelector app too.Does anyone has access to this file and would share it with me ?
Otherwise, could anyone try to help me porting the Duplex Sequencer to the APC20 ? (Or point me to useful ressources so that I can figure it out on my own maybe)
I’m not exactly an expert but it genuinely doesn’t seem too complicated and it seems like it would be a nice addition to Duplex (There’s actually quite a few controllers I can think of which would benefit from having a sequencer mode)
If we’re going the “do it from scratch” route, I’ll make a second post (Perhaps close this one and make a separate topic?) documenting my progress so far and where I’m struggling to get it right
Hope you can help
