Fluidsynth not showing after Ubuntu upgrade
I upgraded today from Ubuntu 18.04 to Ubuntu 20.04. Everything was good until I opened Renoise.
Fluidsynth doesn’t show in my plugins so all my old songs don’t play properly. I removed all the Failed db files under ~/.renoise/V3.1.1 and also did a rescan for plugins in Renoise but nothing helped.
Renoise is v3.1.1 and Fluidsynth after upgrade is 2.1.1.
Any solution or ideas on how to figure out why it doesn’t show?

MPC Beats... the free "DAW"
A few quirks with editing patterns
Hello everyone, it’s been a while! Just updated to 3.2.1 a few weeks ago, awesome
Two little quirks that have been bugging me forever in renoise:
(1) can’t insert note-off in chords, ie. shift+notes to enter them horizontally on the same track
(2) soloing/un-muting channels that are part of a group: imho should unmute the group when unmuting, and recursively upwards if that group is part of an upper group, etc.
Keep up the awesome work on the most powerful sequencer and best DAW ever in existence !!!

I did a Youtube tutorial about Amens on Renoise for PRSPCT Records
Hi all,
I made this tutorial on Amens and Renoise with my personal workflow for the PRSPCT Records channel, please check, and show your support in the comments if you like it!
I’m planning on more Renoise related content for the channel, (I mean my entire career revolves around it and its predecessors, tracking is central to everything I do).
I really want to impart how efficient and great Renoise is and shine a spot light on trackers, and I’m curious to see how this goes down with their community.
(also Edouard whats with the 7F though ? )

Possibility to display Phrase Editor next to regular Editor
Phrases are great and have loads of potential, but I would find it much more productive if the phrase editor would not just be visible in the Instrument tab, but also in the side bar, so one can see both the regular editor and the phrase editor at the same time.
This way it would just be easier to select phrases or change things while working on the arrangement. I feel this would make things much easier and provide better oversight of the project.
Another helpful addition would be to give Phrases names in addition to their number. Also Phrases within Phrases within Phrases within…

New Tool (3.2.2): Rx Markers
IMPORTANT
- Requires Renoise 3.2.2
- This is an early version of the tool and you may encounter errors. Use at your own risk. Please report any bugs in this thread.
- If you delete things in an instrument that are used by this tool and the warning tells you to undo this immediately, it’s not kidding. If you don’t then you may get errors and the tool might stop working.
This tool allows you to control the movement of two slice markers while re-triggering the sample. Playback normally only cares when the starting marker moves, but the Rx makes it also respond to the end marker.
Press the ‘Set Markers’ button and the tool will install the following things into an instrument: a small repeating phrase, a new fx chain with two devices, and two slice markers at the Origin points (you can set these before hitting the button). Either the tool GUI or the fx chain can be used to alter the various parameters and they will update each other to any changes made.
Note that markers will stay at least one sample apart and cannot pass each other.
- Auto Reset - The same as on a regular XY Pad, this will cause the values to move back to the center when the mouse button is released.
- Follow mode - Causes the GUI sliders to move in tandem when one of them is used. This also applies to the XY Pad, but you’ll find it ‘quirky’ with this on.
- Instr. Link - Links the tool GUI with the Instrument Selector so that changing one will change the other. Disabling this will allow you to work on one sample in Renoise while controlling another with the tool GUI.
- Range - How far the slice marker can move to either side of its Origin point. Changing this will alter the accuracy of the sliders/XY Pad.
- Origin - The central point on the waveform that the slice marker will move out from. Pressing ‘Set Markers’ again will set new Origins at the current marker positions.
- Sliders - The first number shows the Offset (how far the marker is from its Origin), while the second number is its exact sample value on the waveform. You can click on these numbers and enter new (valid) ones.
- Slice Size - The amount of samples between the two markers. The option to the right can be used to set the anchor point for any changes to this value.
(In the fx chain, the XY Pad’s Min and Max sliders function as the Start and End sliders of the GUI)
Other Cool Stuff
- The devices in the fx chain allow the slice markers to be automated via macros (see the video).
- There’s no save files. Everything is calculated from the available data. This means any songs or instruments that make use of this tool will work for anyone that has it installed.
- You don’t have to use the provided phrase. You can delete it or create your own one with different effects (e.g. try varying the Rx value or adding backwards commands).
- Slices have their own loop points which you can move to create loops within loops. Changing the loop type can also have different effects that will be apparent on small slices.
- Two slice markers means there’s actually two slices. Although the second one isn’t used by default, you could create a phrase that does, which is useful because it’s changing in length in response to the first slice.
Limitations
- Since this is a Lua tool, automations created with it are not going to result in playback that’s exactly the same each time.
- Pressing ‘Set Markers’ will use the first sample of an instrument, even if you’ve selected another one.
- Values are stored using the XY Pad and Doofer, so accuracy is restricted to 3 decimal places. This makes the tool inaccurate with very long waveforms, so I’ve restricted its use to those under 20,000,000 samples (several minutes long). This issue can probably be overcome in the future.
- Playback can stop when trying to move markers past each other by clicking and dragging them with the mouse.

Sektor plugin seems to not work on renoise 3.2.2
Specs: windows 10 64bit, i7-7500U, 16gb ram
When I try to load any preset I made for sektor (version 1.3.9) it immediately crashes the plugin. The presets were ones I saved in renoise as .fxp files. I loaded up an instance of sektor and didn’t have anything else loaded in renoise and let it idle for a bit and I got a Renoise Has Stopped Working message O_O. On renoise version 3.2.1 it was working perfectly fine. So far all my other plugins are working as they should.

Blackhole audio server input broken on 3.2.2
I’ve been happily using Blackhole (https://github.com/ExistentialAudio/BlackHole) as an in device to pipe output from Csound into Renoise, and it seems there’s been a regression in the latest bugfix 3.2.2, in that there is silence at the Line Input device.
This is on Mojave.
I can’t see any changes in the bug fixes list posted on this forum that would point towards this. The only thing that happened is that Renoise asked to install the latest version of Rewire, which I’m not using here

Takecha - Take Me Away (Downtempo)
A track I made with Renoise a few years ago. After all, when to make music with Renoise, can get the desired sound with all the grains of the sound. In other DAWs, the final rendered sound is often different from the actual sound. Ahh, I’m talking about the dynamics.

Ability to draw single wave cycles with curve editor
I very often create synth tones by hand drawing a wave form, but it’s often hard to get a very smooth sounding wave form. Hitting the smooth operation button several times will often work quite well, but I have often wished for a wave editing mode that makes use of the same curve editing code that is used in the automation system.
I imagine something along the lines of a “curve edit” button that turns on a curve edit tool, and converts those curves back to sample data. It would be very similar in function to the draw wave mode, only it would ensure very nice smooth wave data.
I suppose there’s a grey area here if you were to hit the button on a sample that already contains data. Maybe it would have to have a warning popup: “This mode will delete existing data”, or something?
Thanks for considering my suggestion

⮚ Renoise 3.2.2 & Redux 1.1.2 bugfix releases
Registered versions can be downloaded at the Renoise Backstage and demo versions at the Renoise downloads page.
The Renoise 3.3 feature release is not very far away, but things are going steady but slowly here in general these days, so we wanted to get rid of a bunch of pending fixes better sooner than later. Especially the missing “Apple notarization” in older Renoise and Redux releases gets more and more a problem because more people are running OSX Catalina now.
Songs saved with this version are fully compatible with Renoise 3.2.1. Renoise tools are as well, as the Lua API version did not change.
Changes in Renoise 3.2.2 and Redux 1.1.2 Renoise and Redux-
All OSX builds are now signed and notarized to pass Apple OS X’ latest security features
Please Note: OSX only - as we can no longer integrate the Renoise license into the application you’ll need to locate the Renoise.license file after running Renoise or Redux the first time. It’s part of the tar.gz file that you’ll download from the backstage.

New album - Neuro... No Neuro: "Let's Be Happy!"
Full on lowercase/microsound music. Hot on the tail of Neuro… No Neuro’s full-on ambient onset - “A Particular Timeline” - “Let’s Be Happy” provides a mélange of arrangement techniques. Rhythmic, yet less percussive. Melodic, with broken pieces everywhere. Ambient without the long-form structure. Lowercase without the minimalism. Composed entirely in Renoise with every sound synthesized or field-recorded.
Full album released on July 22nd, 2020, and available from Audiobulb Records here: http://www.audiobulb.com/albums/AB099/AB099.htm

Automate Instrument Meta Controls - Can this be done?
Hi. I’ve been using Renoise on and off for 12+ years, but this is my first post on the forum. I’ve been really getting really back into Renoise recently, and have been exploring new features.
I really enjoy using Renoise more as a synth than a sampler, making sounds from single wave cycles, using the instrument modulations and effects to shape the sounds. (Basically subtractive / wavetable style sythesis.)
I’m trying to achieve a particular thing but so far I can’t find a way to do it, although I can get close, so I was wondering if maybe I have just missed some crucial thing that might get me there…
So, to explain the exact thing I want to achieve: I’m working on an instrument, and I’m in the Effects tab of the instrument editor. I’d like to add an LFO to modulate volume (or filter cutoff, etc). Then, I’d like to add an envelope to control the frequency of the LFO itself so that it changes over time from slow to fast.
As far as I know, there’s no way to automate this in the same way we might automate it in the pattern editor. (Is that correct? Please tell me I’ve just missed something!) I can get quite close to what I want by adding an additional LFO, and using the “custom” modulation envelope editor to draw the envelope I want. The problem I have is that I can’t see a way to sync this slow-to-fast modulation to the actual note trigger such that it retriggers the envelope from the start when I press the note. Instead it just loops constantly, independantly of the note trigger.
Is this something that can be achieved? Perhaps I’ve missed some meta controller or something?
I was thinking / hoping that there could be some kind of meta controller that works basically like a stripped back LFO, with just the custom envelope, and which is synchronised / retriggered by the note trigger event.
Actually, all that would be needed would be a “retrigger” tick box on the LFO that would retrigger the custom envelope on note-down.
One idea I have for this is to hand draw an envelope in a second sample, and use a signal follower to automate the parameter. I’m not sure if that would work, but it’s worth a try. (I’ll report back on it.)
Thanks for any advice you might have for me. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that someone is going to point out something I just haven’t discovered yet.

Ratcheteer - Semi-Automatic MIDI Pattern Generator
Hello
I’ve just released a huge update to my ratcheteer. It shoots out MIDI notes at different velocities and speeds - and can be automated for a live feel.
It’s ideal for making trap hi hat patterns, but can send any MIDI note so it can be used for snares, kicks and used on multiple tracks to build a whole drum section.
Hope you like it!

Doors - Riders On The Storm (Remix)
Well I’m continuing my theme of vocal house remix’s, but I’ve gone for a male vocal this time (even though I have feminised it a bit, which is probably the ultimate sacrilege ).

Maybe chitar is one of the best things to buy for renoise
I saw this rubberband with a piezo pickup and diodes and it looks amazing, not as an instrument to be played on its own onstage, but as something to sample into renoise and write tunes.
The sound of it when its struck with a soft mallet on the back is really cool.
Im pretty sure you could hold the rubberband in a way that would allow you to get tuned up to any note you want accurately for sampling into renoise.
I love the sound. Sounds like it might be great for a duo like chitar renoise + live bohdran, chitar renoise + live jaw harp and finger cymbals or chitar renoise with glitch drums and layered tastefully and sublty with synth tones.
Best value noise maker for sampling as well probably.
Can anyone point me in the direction of a renoise Chitar song?
Id really love to hear that.
