Takao - Victimised (Disco House)

Renoise Forum - November 27, 2020 - 13:14

Hey folks.

I just had tune uploaded to Gazzz696’s youtube channel. I love his blend of house and disco so very excited to get it up there. Would really appreciate if you give it a like there.

I made most of the tune on Renoise - arrangement, sound design, composition and then mixed down in Renoise. Would love to know your thoughts

You can listen to the rest of the EP on The Disco Express here:

And pre-order on bandcamp here:

The MOTHERLODE of Sample Generators

Renoise Forum - November 26, 2020 - 19:33

For those that know me, I’m ALWAYS looking for ways to generate my own sounds via various methods of synthesis. I’m always pushing for plugins in the Renoise realm, and when I can’t find them, I search on GitHub.

Today, I found NINE audio sample generators for percussion, cymbals, SFX. NINE. They sound different than SFXR and WAFXR. Mess around with these, and I guarantee you’ll find something useful. Even for single-cycles, you could trim out from these an insane amount of sample synthesis material. Bass drums, percussion, SFX, BUBBLES!!!, cymbals. If you search Ryukau’s GitHub, there’s even pad synth generators. Many of these exist as VST 3 plugins and LV2 plugins:

Renoise Forum - November 26, 2020 - 18:56

Now then - for today I’m angry and this song represents that. Me playing riffs over a breakbeat with some samples from a crazy old Japanese sci-fi film. Let me know what you think…

Black Friday sale at all?

Renoise Forum - November 25, 2020 - 14:02

Hi everyone,

I love Renoise (used to use trackers in the 90’s… FT2, Screamtracker etc.) and love the possibility Renoise offers to mix tracking with recording etc.

I want to buy very soon, been saving up, but I was wondering if anyone knew if there would be a Black Friday sale at all. Is there usually? I ask this at risk of being labelled a cheap skate, but even if there was even some bundle of Renoise and Redux too that would be cool. (My other DAW is Studio One Sphere).

Thanks!

Problem saving in Renoise?

Renoise Forum - November 24, 2020 - 23:05

Every time I save, it asks for admin permission which I grant and then denies me the ability to save. I have to save in a new folder each time, backups seem fine which is odd… but when i save usiong Ctrl + S or without creating a new file name, renoisw just will not save it. I have had a few technical issues recently, they seem unrelated bnut yet coincidental.

VST Synth1 FM question

Renoise Forum - November 24, 2020 - 22:51

Maybe someone here have an idea.
Why i cant reproduce this FM sound in Serum, Dune3 or even the new Vital?

It’s just two sawtooth Osc’s, where OSC2 is muted but modulates OSC1. And OSC2 is pitched down 60 semitones. You get a laser like sound.

It sounds like this, when you play C-3 in Renoise:

I cant reproduce this sound in Serum using the in build FM modulation, also not in Vital. In Dune3, you use the Matrix with audio rate modulation, but it sounds horrible.

I’m not sure what i’m missing here. Its pretty simple what i try to reproduce.

ZynZilla - able to get it to appear, but not generate sound

Renoise Forum - November 24, 2020 - 19:06

OK, I read somewhere, on some post here in the forum, that adjusting the API value would quite often resuscitate ‘dead’ plugins. So I did - figured out how to update the manifest.xml, from 2.0 to 6.0. Now the ZynZilla plugin appears! Neato-beato.

But, Zynzilla does not produce any sound, nor does it generate any waveforms.

While I do not code in any language, I was able to figure out where to find the issue is, by viewing the Terminal feedback from the plugin. Here’s the message I got:

*** std::logic_error: ‘invalid sample index ‘0’. valid values are (1 to 1).’
*** stack traceback:
*** [C]: in function ‘insert_sample_at’
*** main.lua:537: in function ‘generate’
*** ./gui.lua:861: in function <./gui.lua:860>

Would anybody have any idea what I could copy/paste into the plugin, so we could all get this neat sound generator back?

Who is up for a monthly challenge?

Renoise Forum - November 23, 2020 - 21:52

Hello community !

I’m a beginner in music and Renoise. As a way to improve my skills I would like to propose a monthly challenge. The idea behind that is to (try to) make a track with a given set of constraints. People willing to participate can then post their .xrns and we can learn from each other, comparing various techniques. This is not a contest for the best song, no winner, no loser, just experimentation and creativity for fun !

Here are some possible constraints for a song, a challenge would be a mix of them

  • only one track
  • no effects
  • only effects (no notes)
  • ridiculous bpm
  • hand drawn sound
  • only use a given single sample
  • all the lines
  • all notes are arpaggiated
  • use a particular instrument
  • only one pattern of fixed length
  • must be a canon
  • use a particular key
  • use a particular chord progression
  • a cover of a song
  • remake of a song
  • a themed song
  • fork an existing .xrns
  • only mix an exiting .xrns
  • each notes triggered randomly
  • use only your voice
  • less than xx kb .xrns file
  • forbid some frequencies
  • make a synthesizer in renoise
  • use a specific beat pattern
  • make a beat out of effects

The more people join the challenge, the more material and ideas we would come up with.

Who’s in ? Please post crazy ideas you have !

How to determine renoise.app().window height?

Renoise Forum - November 23, 2020 - 16:03

How to determine renoise.App().window height ?

I want my tool to automatically become (just a little less higher) than the Renoise screen and stay within screen boundaries.

I can not find it here

It uses a .lua extension for markup only. ]]-- -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- -- renoise This file has been truncated. show original
